Post taxidermist quest. or ppl with this experience????
i killed a beautiful full plumage pintail drake with a double sprig that crosses with the pins being about 8 inches. i want to mount him, but he was a sky blast shot and i just winged him. my point is when i shot him i phucked up his left wing to the point that his bone is sticking out.....i have him wrapped up good in the freezer until i can find out from someone if this can be fixed when mounted or if this is a no go and just chunk him/clean him?????any one had this issue before or know if this can be mounted in a flying/cupping position on some driftwood? any input is appreciated.

mount him in a falling, dead position... then the wing will give it a original look

Iv seen some messed up stuff be fixed but depends on the skill of the person doing the work... Iv taken two ducks and told them to make one out of it.... May be an option for ya.... Just have to check with yo Taxidermist.... He may can show you some mounting options to hide the bad wing...

Most of it can be fixed even if the bone is exposed so long as the wing isn't bout tore off. As long as his primary flight feathers towards the tips of the wings arn't broken and all the tail end is there most of the rest is coverable. Note : the primarys are the longer wing feathers after the mids on the wing.

Why not mount him in a standing position so people can get up close to it and see it. Especially if its a double sprig.

no the wing itself is in good shape, it snap/broke right at the base and the bone broke the skin. all feathers seem to be there and look great. Robn i thought about it but i have a banded mallard in my kitchen my brother mounted and his wife wont let it in her house that is why its in mine and its in the "cuppin down" position and i love the way it looks. i thought that the pintail would look even better than the green head being that it is a prettier bird.

Yes, you will surprised at what can be fixed or hidden either by pose or feather positioning. Broken bones are no problem and I have sewn up some serious holes.

This is a family friend of mine that does a HE!! of a job. He will let you know if he can fix the bird. His work is well worth the money as you will see in his photos.

I watched a guy taxi a bird and thought I could do it. Very rewarding to do your own, it just takes patience. Here are a few that I've done that turned out decent. The broken wing should not be a problem at all.

Thanks. I did them for my dad. He shot the three one morning and one of them was banded. If you visit "The Refuge" (duckhunter.net i think), they have an excellent taxidermy forum. The pro's on there make my birds look like a kindergartener cut and pasted them together.

Looks good, could you get my info on the guy that did it. I have my first black squirrel with a guy in Berwick. After I brought it I started hearing horror stories about lost birds, lost fish, messed up deer. Starting to get worried my squirrel is history, because it has been so long. Dont plan to bring anything else to him.
