Ok
For a long time on here i have wondered!! Every body thinks their mm are the best of course that is the reason of their purchase!! The thing that gets me on here is when a pissing match comes up its always where i live its tougher than were your at.. So if were i live at one brand just dominates the other why in the hell is it any differant where you live!! Its always tougher other places. but if you get your azz smoked in the so called easy places what makes you think if your place is tougher than the others your gonna do better Just wondering if yall notice the same thing!! Most of this chit comes from up north just saying!!

Re: Ok
I will say this - my area is tougher than your area because my area is all sand and sandy mud. We would all be fukkn stuck and buying new props!

Re: Ok
I'm sure you do- but we don't have that soft mud like you have anywhere-
I know of maybe a few places, they're very small, nothing like the huge flats ya'll have.

Re: Ok
Guess you need to come up here and teach your fellow gtr owners how to drive. Like I told you before, I have not been impressed. Been next to them many times and never been in a situation where another surface drive outshined the pd. Not saying my terrain is easier or harder, but it is damn sure different. Oh, and you damn sure better talk to the two guys I met with brand new gtr rigs that told me they wish they woulda bought pd's!!! They are gonna ruin whatever it is that you are trying to do.

Re: Ok
I guess I did. But I answered your question. At least from my point of view. I haven't seen anything to make me doubt my decision and my decision was to buy a pd. If I saw something to make me change my mind...well... I'm hoping I'll get to spend some time with Mr. Brooks this summer. Maybe he will show me somethin.

DDM, you act like an adult in person, but for some reason if you get a keyboard or a tiller any where close to you, you revert back to your elementary school days. And I'm absolutely positive that whatever answer you have to that statement, will only help to prove my point.

Re: Ok
some motors do better than others in certain situations YES,BUT,the single most determining factor what a boat will do is.. THE DRIVER!PERIOD i put my outboard thru more shit than mosta yall wit ya mud motors...jump LEVEES,not lil islands, lay out 5or6 4ft pieces of pvc and slide it over 20 or 30 ft of hard land, take out the wood floor and lay it on the big ROCK dams and jump that......most from up north aint got a forkin clue,we been doin this kinda shit for a living, not for fun. and another thing,if a person was smart enuff to put a hyd.jack plate on his mudmotor,he'd shine like a diamond in a goat's ass in that slushy setex mud. on a hard bottom, you aint gonna fuk wit a long tail. thats all for now

Re: Ok
This post went to shiat quick like. I know what the point is here. In the Atchafalaya Basin there are sand bars. I hunt a place called Sandy Cove, got that name for the sand. ANd this is way south louisiana. Tiller time and experience does make all the difference, it is called experience. I ran tunnel boats with outboards, had a 1436 tunnel with a 25 mariner, i could get it up in 3 inches of water with a slush mud bottom, but after 6 years of that rings and block finally gave out. It took practice and experience to learn how to run that tunnel in that shallow of water. I just got my first surface drive motor last year, got a cheap deal on a mini mudbuddy. I am still learning the little tricks to getting going in mud etc.....I have outdone a pd, and a 23 GTR. But the GTR is the boat size, shape and the driver. My boat is antique azz flatbottom but does ok, it is great for my learning purposes. From what i read on here and seen in reality, tiller experience and reverse make a world of difference. I have gotten stuck twice, hard mud just blows out, but i learned what the limit of my motor is, and when you hit that kinda mud , do not be a puzzy and let off the throttle, because then you probably stuck .

Re: Ok
Jackplates are designed to raise lower unit up. So if you install a jackplate to a mudmotor the same way as an outboard, you raising the whole motor up and the shaft, prop etc away from the mud. Only way a jackplate is functional for a mm is for the GDSD or Mudbuddy mini with manual trim. I saw on here someone installed a cnc power trim jackplate on a mini. And it would have to be mounted properly as to get maximum reach in mud. Gatortail has a trim that goes lower, they designed it that way, normal trim is limitied by the housing bottoming out on transom , Gatortail pushes from the top and hinges on the bottom, that way there is alot more travel in the trimming down, hence the better mud biting capabilities.

Re: Ok
most jackplates are used to put motor further back and up, thats why they are angled up maybe. If it is adjustable why sure you can go up or down for adjustment, but general rule of thumb and purpose of a jackplate is the further away from the boat the higher you can put motor in the wake behind the boat without propeller cavitating and blowing out. and there are power trim jackplates also to trim motor up and down. But correct me if I am wrong , jackplates are designed to raise motor to create less draft of an outboard foot . Thats what the jackplate was designed for, but there is no rule saying you cannot mount a jackplate for mm application however way you want to, be it a stationary, adjustable, or with power trim. so how si that assbackwards??? if I am wrong tell me why I am wrong, not just say I got it assbackwords, prove me wrong and educate me please, i like to learn something newe everyday. Thanks

Re: Ok
On an outboard, you are using the jackplate to lift the motor up. On a mudmotor, you would be using it to lower the engine for a better bite in the mud. Not tilt, completly lower the frame of the motor. That is why he is saying your thinking is ass backwards. You are going the wrong way with it...
In reading your post, it also seems you may be confusing a jackplate for tilt/trim. The jack plate goes straight up and down. Not tilting the motor, lifting and lowering the motor straight up and down parallel to the transom.

Re: Ok
Seems that you all are confused, there are tilt and trim jackplatees also. there is a stationary, solid jackplates, adjustable, goes up and down manually or with hydraulics, and tilt and trim ones, do just that tilt and trim. So i do not have anything assbackwords, jackplates can be used to lower mm straight down or to trim down more, depends on what person wants to try. As for GDSD and Mudbuddy with manual trim, the tilt and trim jackplates would help for that reason.

Re: Ok
Mr Brooks tilt= is the movement to the water andback up out the water trim= is the adjustment of motor in water to "trim" boat out

Last reply to cb5331 and poker, I never type a jackplate will not lower or raise a mm. just typed what they were designed for, and also include pictures, because seems to me you two do not do to well with words. Thanks have a good day!!

Re: Ok
it is two staged, because in the water you need more power to trim against the torque of the outboard.
