A couple days ago I put out about 60 crawfish traps in the same spot I fished the last 3 years. No other flags or traps were back there except for some of my old flagging from previous years. I went to run em today and someone else had flags in the same slew as me. They only had about 5 traps out but about 100 flags, like they were just marking their spot. Problem is, I already had traps in there with bright orange flags plain as day. Well they took it upon themselves to open all of my traps and throw em back in the water. They hung a couple of em up in the trees. Its not private property, so I cant really say anything, but its about respect. I left em a note with a few choice words and a couple of consequences. The outcome is totally up to them. It just pisses me off that some people do sh!t like that. Have the decency to just fcukin go somewhere else if you see someone is there before you. Im not goin back til Saturday, so Ill see what happens after that. That sh!t ruined my day. Just thought Id share dat. That is all.

I went with Brother to his traps before. I just can't see how that honor system holds up most of the time with all of the shitbags in this world. But I guess the fact that you know that if the owner of the traps saw you messin with his shit, then there might be a bullet headed your way, keeps most of the fu<k sticks away. lol

I don't think someone would be that brazen without a reason. For example, how long you been fishin that spot yourself? But if they're just being azzholes, then cut the nets and stack em' somewhere with a note with my phone number and this "To the asswipe who don't respect anything, I moved your nets saving you the embarrassment of a beatdown. Call this number and my lawyer will explain further."

That is why I quit fishing. Got in an argument with an jackass from pigeon over a spot I had been fishing for several years.
Goes on for a week or so and come back one day and both of our traps were gone
I was out 100+ traps and he was up 100+ traps
Just worried I would end up shooting some one over stupid $hit likE that

That sucks man. My dad never carries a gun in the boat b/c he said he's been mad enough to use it. We had a problem with a guy running our traps last year in the spillway. Left him a note and he stopped. Hopefully we won't have any trouble this year. Put out 75 today and have another 225 or so to set. This year we're gonna try to stay away from all the traffic.

Post subject:  Re: No good SOBs

The simple solution to this problem is a deer camera hung up and out of sight. When you find out who it is, it will be up to you how you handle the solution. I have gill nets that are being checked by someone else every now and then. I have a camera up and can't wait to see who it is. We have a idea who it is but want to be sure .
Now you La crawfisherman ought to have all the water you will ever need. We are so flooded out here in the midwest that our projected crest is not for another several days. Alot of water headed down your way. If you need any buffalo in bulk let me know.

How to Catch Crawfish Without Traps

1 Gather all the items you'll need and head for your local creek, lake or marsh. You'll probably be wading at some point, so you'll either want to be barefoot or in sandals.

2 Look for a likely crawfishing spot. Crawfish tend to like wet, semi-marshy places where the water is a fairly still and doesn't freeze to the bottom in winter. Search shallow pools in your fishing area or near immersed piles of stones along the water line.

3 Be patient! Crawfish can be shy and difficult to spot - you may not see them right away.

4 Once you've found your crawfishing spot, prep your bait. Take a small piece of liver (about an inch) and carefully tie your string around it. This is the tricky part - tie too loose and the liver will slip off the line, tie too tight and the liver will rip in two when the crawfish grabs it. Practice by giving your liver a little tug to see how tightly it's on the line.

5 Lower your fishing line directly into the water and let it drag on the creek floor. Crawfish are tasty but not bright - they'll notice the liver but not the line.

6 Once you've got a crawfish interested, give your fishing line little wiggles to keep his attention - try to draw him into a shallower part of the creek. If you're lucky and patient, he'll eventually grab on to the liver.

7 Once the crawfish has the liver firmly in his claws, quickly grab him around his midsection and toss him in your bucket!

Fukin bullshit!!!!!

#1 rule on crawfishing- DON'T mess with another mans shit. It's a sure way to catch an ass whoppin.

I'm going put my traps out tomorrow, hope I ain't gotta deal with m'fers fishing on top of me like the previous year. Hopefully high gas prices scares them away.

Well, the guy found my note with my name and number on it and called me this morning. He said somebody been opening his traps too. I dont believe him but hes supposed to move his sh!t out of there. Ive been knowing the dude all my life and he knows me and my family pretty good. He will either leave my stuff alone since he knows me or keep on doin it and then hes gonna have a problem. He was pretty nice about the situation on the phone, considering what I wrote him. I was also pretty cool about it but also let him know that he cant be there. I dont own the spot but you just dont do sh!t like that. So, Ill find out whats up tomorrow morning.

I hope it works out for you. It's hard enough work as it is, plus the time and $$$ investment, but then have to deal with this stuff I know can get more than aggravating.

We deal with the same kind of crap with our commfishing nets. I change my running times up in hopes of keeping them guessing. I had a guy at the ramp ask me one time 'what wouild you do if you caught someone running your nets' I asked him if he wanted to find out?? He said NO and we left it at that. Randy

Dad went to check traps today and one spot had all the traps opened up and hanging upside down. No other traps in the area but I guess he thinks he owns it. We know who it is. Too bad the azzhole doesn't know that we are about to take over exclusive fishing rights of the area. Sucks for him.
