"A Chitimacha recollection" about the tribe and living in the Basin. Said Bayou Tech was named by the tribe after a giant snake attacked the tribe killing many warriors. The warriors finally killed the snake and as it layed on the ground decomposing, its tail at Port Barre and its head at Morgan City, the weight of the snake made an impression in the ground and water settled the depression and created the bayou. Pretty interesting stuff. |
