 Re: 05 silverado......help!
i dont have a light on right now it will come on from time to time. we all have the same size wheels and tires and my dad has a little bigger tires and performs better. none of us have a tuner tried one on it one tima and made no acceleration difference on my truck. i also have k/n cold air intake and that made no difference. the truck has 140000 on it but should still have plenty left. was told could be my cats, mass airflow sensor, or injectors but dont know how to narrow it down.

 Re: 05 silverado......help!
go in your glove box and look at the codes on the sticker at the bottom..
look for gu6 or gt4 or gt5
My bet from what you are saying is that you have 3.42 gears which is gu6 code.
Edit: I have a 05 z71 with 3.42 gears and 33" swampers and it was a dog for pulling anything. Would shift in and out of OD a lot.

 Re: 05 silverado......help!
go get any codes read... If your check engine light came on it should have stored the codes in your PCM as long as you havnt disconnected your battery since then.
35s with 3.42 gears is a lot on these trucks. If you plan on keeping the truck if I were you I'd invest in some gears. about 2k at cajun offroad in lafayette. I'd suggest atleast 4.56. Your transmission will thank you also and last longer and run at cooler temps.
Also it wouldnt hurt to change your fuel filter and make sure that the k/n is clean and oiled properly.

 Re: 05 silverado......help!
4.56 gears will solve your problem....also may take it and have the trans fluid and filter changed (not flushed). also if/when you plan to gear it, you might upgrade the locker. the stock ones' springs (with heavier wheels/tires) become week and brittle begin to slip under a load (in turns mostly).

 Re: 05 silverado......help!
the 8th digit is a 5? also have you checked your trans fluid lately? sometimes (with the load thats on it all time) some fluid will burn off and cause the valves in the valve body to gum up not get the full range the need throughout the rpm range....

 Re: 05 silverado......help!
whenever you think about it, check your buddies vin. in05, 06 and 07 classics they have an option of a vin code z which is a higher output 5.3 (flat tops) this may be the difference. most were on canadian built models with the block heater... they are a bit more torqy than the t codes. but all in all, its gonna boil down to gearing....

 Re: 05 silverado......help!
If it hasn't gotten worse, then this solution is probably unlikely, but I had an 04 Z71 Tahoe that started acting weird and very quickly afterwards didn't even have the power to get me all the way across the bridge over the river on the way home.
Turned out the ceramic in the cats had come loose and rotated 90 degrees, blocking my exhaust flow to the point it was fouling 2 cylinders and bogging the engine almost to the point of shutting down. Simple check was to disconnect the exhaust at the manifolds and see if it picks up rpm at a faster rate. If so, yank em.
Like I said, probably not your answer, but disconnecting at the manifolds will at least confirm its not between there and the tailpipe.
Good luck!

 Re: 05 silverado......help!
easy way to tell if cats take a temp before the cat and after <off the pipe> and there should be a diff but if there is a lot then the cat is clogged up

the L33...
is your engine block aluminum or cast iron?
the l33 does run and have more power than iron block 5.3

Click this link and enter your VIN number. It will tell you everything about your truck, all it's features, and how many there are exactly like it. Funny, there are only 3 of mine. http://www.compnine.com/vid.php

 Re: 05 silverado......help!
steel block is 290 horse and the aluminum is 315 if i recal correctly.... that might be the difference.
magnaflow high flow cats or no cats with a 3" dynomax bulllet would sound amazing and flow awsome.
if you get a tuner dont go with a handheld.. go with a custom tune.

 Re: 05 silverado......help!
Yeas and no, there descent but as far as tuning goes the guy that used to tune for them left and opened his own shop with a dyno. If I were to get a tune it would be from him, hes in industriplex off of siegan in Baton Rouge its called engine power systems. He's a nice guy and knows his shit also theres Futral motorsports in Denham Springs I haven't used him but hear nothing but good from there.
What are you wanting to do performance wise?
