Post subject: | good wrist watch?? |
I have to say that I have not worn a wrist watch for nearly twenty years. I had a really nice watch stolen from me in college. When I hired on with the Sheriffs Ofc I had a Timex Ironman for a work watch and was torn off my wrist by a stumbling drunk. I had the broken watch in my squad car for a short time and it disappeared. Several years later it was found during a jail shake down. A trustee admitted to stealing it out of my car when he was cleaning it. No thanks on wearing that watch. I am now looking to buy a really good watch. I am looking for some help in pointing me in the right direction. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated. Randy |

Can't go wrong with a Rolex. Yes, they are expensive, but they are durable, waterproof and last forever. I got my first one when I was 15 and I still wear it. Well worth the investment. |

I was given a Citizen as a gift. I can't say that's what I would have bought myself. However, after having it for about 12 years now, I would buy one I had to replace it. http://www.citizenwatch.com/COA/English/browse.asp |

I just go with a good Timex with hands and glass. By the time the battery goes dead I have beat it all to hell and just buy a new one every 3-4 years. I never take it off. |

I've been wearing my g-shock for 5 years now. Only thing I'd do differently is next time I'd get one of the ones that auto adjusts itself with that atomic clock. |

My G Shock has been through hell and back when I worked patrol division. I've been having the same G Shock for 8 years. Since I've been assigned to Criminal Investigations I wear a Tag Aqua Racer and love it. A little pricey but cheaper than a Rolex and keeps better time than a Rolex!! |

I bought a CYMA Navy Star a couple of years ago. Really nice and has held up great. The one pic on my wrist has a slight glare. |

If you're wanting a tactical type watch, check out MTM watches or Chase Durer Special Forces 1000xl watch. My next hunting/fishing watch will probably be a MTM Predator. I wear my CYMA every day, but its to expensive to replace if I do mess it up. I can tell you if you buy a high end watch, they usually last. If you want a dress type watch, also check out TAG or Omega. |

Get with Flavor Flav. You can google him. He has a unique style of wearing a watch. Hard for it to get stolen. |

how much are you looking to spend? what features do you want? battery or automatic? +1 on the previous BREITLING comment. I looked at rolex, omega, tag, and movado before buying my BREITLING. I had a movado that i wore for seven years and it still keeps great time. however, it was a wedding gift that lasted longer than the marriage. |

Check out watches made by Oris, they are fully mechanical and never need a battery. I've had one for 10 years now and haven't had a single issue. I'd also look at the Movado 800 series, they're also very durable. I buy most of my watches at www.jomashop.com or www.authenticwatches.com since you can save quite a bit over retail. There's another site called www.chronoshark.com that puts a sale on 1 watch a day and I've seen quite a few quality watches on there too for $100's less than any other store. You just have to keep an eye on it. |

Post subject: | Re: good wrist watch?? |
I have looked at all of the suggested watches several times. I did not mention any price range at the start due to not really knowing what a good watch will cost. Since I work motor patrol I'm thinking of a nice watch blacked out. Since I own and operate a commercial fishing business and fish processing facility I thought I need a nice rugged waterproof watch. Since I run a successful business I wanted something that shows success. I am trying to put all of this into one watch. Can that be done? I did find some Sieko automatic diver watches available only in Japan that I liked but they are unavailable at this time. Production is out until late May. The Chase Durer is also unavailable right now for the right price but found a couple that was priced higher. I liked the CYMA very much and some of the Breitlings. The luminox watches will cover my work watch but would not want to clean several hundred pounds of fish and then wear that in uniform. Some of the guys I work with have G shocks but say they will buy other brand when their G shocks are done. Is there a watch that is blacked out, tough enough for commercial fishing and bling in between? I |

I have had four Luminox watches. Personally I think they suck. Two have quit working in less than 2 years and are not repairable. Well, two different dealers told me they could have them sent off but it would be a couple hundred bucks. The third has a large crack in the crystal, I still wear it and it works fine, just would not want to get it very wet. I cracked it while helping a buddy carry a couch out and the watch bumped into his aquarium. In my opinion it should not have broke. The first one I had did last about 5 years but the wristband broke while throwing out decoys and it is on the bottom of the river. The illumination system is pretty cool though... |

look into the BREITLING line. get the metal band with the watch and order the rubber band with quickrelease clasp. best of both worlds. ball park...3600-10,000. |

If your wanting class, durability, and functionality, check out a tag heuer. The aquaracer line would be your best bet. They aren't as expensive as breitling but are just as nice to me. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk while NOT driving |

if you think a watch is going to impress people, ide have to second guess that. ive seen some low life sob's with real rolexes on. snakes thet were. the kind driving a $80000 car that hasent had a payment since it was new. you know the ones, several bankrupt trips and still acting like the big guy. i think its caled "afro american rich" ide say a g-shock, a clean uniform, a firm hand shake and an honest attitude will get you the respect you are looking for. if you need a $2500 watch to get it then f them, they dont know respect nor will you get it from them. |

Hunt4 I have been a Deputy Sheriff for 21 yrs most of that in investigations. I wear class A uniforms when others wear BDU's. My handshake is the firmest you will ever feel and I tell it like it is. With that I am making less money now than when I started. Our previous Sheriff cut us off with no security jobs and that cost me a bunch of money. My benefits went from zero cost to one third my paycheck. I commercial fished for years on a small scale. With two daughters in college and one in law school I had to take my fishing business to a new level. By attending seafood handling classes/haccp cerification ,building my fish processing facility, getting to be USDA, State and County inspected/approved, getting out and selling my products has made my fish business operate in the black and I do very well. The watch is kinda my reward for never missing work, going out when others stay in, never settling, not accepting mediocrity, and buiding a good reputation for my family operated business and my 5-0 job. With that I feel a Rolex or Brietling is not out of order. Now with my conservative thinking do I want to spend that much on a watch. Yes and NO. I'm looking at a mid range watch for now and setting some higher goals and springing for a Rolex upon achieving them. Thats how I roll ![]() Randy |

Randy, There is nothing wrong with a little reward for hard work paying off. I made a promise to myself 5 years ago that when i made a certain amount in a year that i would reward myself with a submariner rolex. the time came and i started shopping. thats when i really started to compare price, style, and quality. i still love the look of a 50th anniversary submariner but i cant hide the fact that i love my Breitling. i looked at hard at the omega line too. they are all nice watches and dont forget the insurance rider. |
