Post subject:  Crawfish help!!!

My buddy Ray has been working in Houston,Tx and is driving home tomorrow. He has agreed to stop and pick up a few sacks of crawfish for me. He has no idea where to go. He is leaving Houston headed east on I 10 and then to I 55 northbound. Any suggestions as to where he could stop and pick up the crawfish from? He has never messed with crawfish and has no idea as to price or where to buy them. Any suggestions for a location off I 10? Any cost guidelines? How much boil mix per sack should he buy?
Thanks and any help is appreciated.

Randy

Not sure where to tell him to pick some up but they are going for around $1/# retail. So around $40/sac depending on how big they are. Zataran's and Louisiana are 2 brands that have a pack of seasoning ready mixed to do 1 sac of crawfish. Thats basically all you need. Maybe add a box of salt if you want it more salty.
Maybe one of the guy's crawfishing can meet up with him and hook him up.

Brother Breaux's parents run a bait shop in Henderson LA and buy the crawfish off the boats. Might try them and cut out some middlemen. She will have crawfish after 3 pm. Ask for Claudia. 337-228-2429

We boil water and taters fer about 15 minutes in seasoned water first

we like the liquid crab boil - bout 2 to 4 oz and the Zatarans or Louisiana
crawfish / crab boil powdered mix - bout two big handfulls

put in corn garlic pods onions and other tidbits - boil 5 more minutes

put in crawfish - ONLY boil for 5 minutes - don't over cook

kill fire and put in a big handful of salt - steep 5 minutes
the salt pushes the seasoning into the mudbugs

remove and repeat - adding same seasoning and salt each time
they get hotter and beter each batch

feed the kids and womenfolk on the first batch

for extra zest - sprinkle a dash of the powder mix over them after cooking

Liquid crab boil=da shyts.

I like 1 small (1lb) sac of Swamp Fire, and one big sac (4or5 lb) La Fish fry, a SPLASH of the liquid shyts in a jar (liquid crab boil) Dust the top wit cayanne, a little salt and roll wit it. Since youre from the other side of the interstate, may want to leave the swamp fire, and/or cayanne out

If he is putting them in an ice chest make sure he does not close the lid all the way, they need air. The dads dont need to be in the sun either. Put a thin layer of ice on them and leave then drain plug undone.

I like the Zataran's Extra Spicy seasoning the best. Swamp Fire and Slap Ya Momma are good also.

If he is buying them from breaux's I am sure they can reccomend a seasoning amount per the lbs of crawfish he buys.

Just saw a guy on www.louisianasportsman.com classifieds selling sacks and I think he said he was in Denham Springs. Thats right outside Baton Rouge and can't be far from the interstate. They have a couple of guys selling them that would probably meet him by the interstate.

Ben, Not to worry. My buddy just found out that he has to go somewhere else in Texas and will not be going through La. .
Can you get any of those bugs to Warren? If so I will take five sacks.
