 Hunting in Houston area
I'm considering taking a job in the Houston area and weighing the pro's and con's.
So I have some important questions for ya'll
Hunting Is there any public duck hunting in the region? If so what type ie marsh timber/ walking or boats. If there is public is it as bad as wax lake or Manchac on opening day all the time or "typical" for public land?
What type of leases do they have and what kind of rates could I expect?
Fishing What type of fishing do they have around there? Bass / Reds
What kind of options lakes, rivers, marsh, open bays?
Thanks in advance.

^^^Baaaaahhhhaaahahahha.
There is no public hunting or fishing in TX. Leases start at around 15k a year and they all suck.

 Re: Hunting in Houston area
For fishing check out fishwestend.com
Lakes, Rivers, Marsh, Bays, Bayous we have a great fishing around the Houston area all within a hour drive.
I am personally on TxWaterfowler.com for duck hunting I don't frequent much but it seems like a good group of guys.
Some good input as always can be found here on MMT.
I am from Houston area so if I can provide any input on locations to live in relation to your place of work let me know.

 Re: Hunting in Houston area
There is alot of public marshes to duck hunt about an hour east. You can get some guided hunts in the Kay and Eagle Lake areas just west even closer. You've got some decent size freshwater lakes a little over an hour away (Sam Rayburn and Toledo Bend). There's some great wade fishing in Matagorda. I live east about 1 1/2 hours from Houston and can show you where we fish and hunt around here. I have a brother in law in The Woodlands (north Houston). I can get some info on where he hunts near Houston. Pm westendangler, he can give you lots of info as well. I'm going to making some duck and goose hunts in Eagle Lake this year. Seen lots of birds last year on some trips so check that out. As far as deer hunts, the hill country has lots of numbers but South Texas has bigger racks.

 Re: Hunting in Houston area
The public area I hunt is first come first serve. You place a sticker on the place you are hunting. It's not a race to your spot. But you have to get to the check station early if you want a specific spot. I do alot of scouting and have several places to hunt.

 Re: Hunting in Houston area
Get you an "All Public Lands" added to your hunting license - it comes with maps and the local regs - a great value....
Public lands are OK on weekdays and later in the season - but a zoo the first few weekends...
Good leases can be afordable - 2k will buy a lot in a 2 to 3 hour drive distance...
Like...
I ended up with an opening left on my lease. Some basic information is below.
- ~900 Acre farm - ~70 acres of guaranteed water through the season with multiple ponds via non-LCRA canal system - Price is $1,800/gun - Location is in Calhoun Co

 Re: Hunting in Houston area
There are plenty of public land. look up NWR texas, all down the coast on either side of galveston, yea you will have to drive an hour or so. ive hunted most of them, mostly in Anahuac area and keep in mind the drought will limit hunting areas
And X2 on the addition to license, and some of them you will need a hunting permit that you can download off the NWR website and get maps

 Re: Hunting in Houston area
Starting threads because a you were upset another grown man had something better to do than sword fight with you vs. Not consulting the latest fashion magazine before purchasing a pair of sunglasses. Hmmmmm, I thinkin it's worse to be a fag. BTW, somehow I doubt he said that about me, but you might should wonder what the rest of the boys down there are saying about you.

 Re: Hunting in Houston area
You just keep telling yourself that. Most people who know me think I'm an asshole, a few may think I'm a douche, but it must suck that a good handful that have met or know YOU personally think that you are a fucking fag. Go marinate on that a lil bit. Now why don't you go read some more of your gay fashion magazines so I can call you next time I go shopping to make sure I don't buy the wrong thing.

 Re: Hunting in Houston area
There are plenty opportunities for hunting and fishing in texas...but from houston you will have to drive in one direction or the other... Just north of Houston there is some pretty good deer hunting... to the east (anahuac, winnie) and south west (el campo) there is some pretty good duck hunting... there are a bunch of lakes not to far away for bass fishing (lake conroe, lake fork, toledo)... the salt water fishing is decent at best around galveston but gets better the further you go south along the coast and also not bad around sabine lake... But the selection of public lands aren't as plentiful as in Louisiana..You might be better off getting into a club over there or leasing land... the problem with the ducks in texas this year is water...there isn't much of it due to the drought they have been facing....
