so i took some advice from a guy at work and bought one of them Dehumidifiers and .....WOW...... What a difference. No B.S. but 77 feels like 73. My a/c ain't workin as hard and neither is my wallet. Thought i might share...... ;)

my house stays 78° until 2 a.m. and the A.C. never shuts off. $300 more a month on my electric bill! Metal roof w/ new turbines and double insulated windows. Last summer my house was gutted and new insulation was installed in the walls and the attic. Putting in a new unit this week in hopes of some relief!

if Mudd would offer me a job, I'd move up north :D

Exactly, ac will ruin ya. When we was kids we didn't have any and slept with a attic fan with a squeak and the window by the bed wide open. Slept good. I suffered a heat exhaustion episode while at work over 10 years ago, stopped sweating felt real dizzy started staggering around and they called 911 and while at the ER they gave me an IV and that night I had cold chills and shook all night. Next day my pupils were huge and still couldn't even think strait. It still effects me to this day. AC will ruin ya.

A new unit will work wonders. The new a/c systems today have seer ratings of like 13 or 14. It may even be higher. Also, old duct work will cause serious restrictions in airflow. You may want to look into that also coon.

lose the roof turbines and get ridge vents, looks better to. Also get some blown in cellulose or add another 6" of fiberglass to your attic, get window shades, plant trees or shurbs near the house to deflect heat. Use compact flourescent bulbs, saves 2/3 energy and puts out less heat. For new homes get Geothermal heat pumps, will really lower utitlty bills, big up front expense but your paying for it over mostly like 30years. Look into a water heater timer, they can save you $25-40 a month and they only cost about $50.00 for a good one. Also look into replacing that old tank water heater and get a instantanous water heater, prices have come down and they pay for themselves in about three years or so. Plus you have an endless supply of hot water. Check all windows and doors for leaks and weatherstrip breakdown. Try getting a blow door test done as well. You want your house tight as possible when it comes to heating and cooling.

Whats the scoop on the tankless water heaters? Where I'm building is out in the boonedocks and we don't have gas. I was told the electric one's are junk. If you can't go NG it not worth having. Have they made improvements on the electric one's. This was info from 3 years ago.

I sell a few electric ones each year, no real issues ,electric ones are some serious wattage pullers, most homes arent wired for them, since your building a new home you can wire them in easly. Still they are better then tank heaters. Main issue with them is you need to make sure you dont have lime or scale in your water, put a softerner in front of the line going in if you do.

Try the Rheem or Bosch brands, best ones out there IMHO. This is the last country to still use tank heaters.
If you price one, let me know I sell them wholesale and can make sure your not getting ripped off but they are pretty competitive so I doubt you will.

Pintail my kids old days stories are cell phones with no texter on it. Wait till them kids get bigger and apply for law school at Cornell. Or they drive your vehicle because theirs is out of gas or their air conditioner dont work because they wrecked their car that only has liabliity insurance on it. By the way liability insurance is defined as my billfold.
I toughened myself to handle the heat by patrolling around in my patrol car with the windows down and the A/C on high. :roll:
