 Mud runs
So let the bashing begin...I have been to the past 2 mud runs down here in south Louisiana and have been trying to decide either pd or gtr as next motor when the gd dies (450 hrs on her). The pd seems to be a beast and not needing to be pulled out. As much as the gtr guys talk crap here I would love for y'all to show up and show us how those things do work. I was dead set on getting a gtr due to overwhelming comments on here but from last mud runs I haven't been impressed at all by them. I'm not worried about which one is faster I want the one that won't get u stuck deep in marsh where no one could even here u shooting a shotgun for help

 Re: Mud runs
The pro drive and GTR are both great motors and they both have there advantages and disadvantages.
The pro drive to me is way easier to drive. The GTR is faster. The pro drive is more than likely to get stuck in deep mud IF YOU STOP due to the lack of reach and drive angle. The pro drives reverse is way more efficient than GTR's but takes a little longer to engage due to the whole lower unit swinging. The gtrs reverse with a reverse plate is good too, but just isint like a prodrives reverse.
Honestly you'll just have to go test drive them both in the areas you will be running and make the decision on your own, because everyone has their own opinion, and what may be good for someone else may not work for you.
In my opinion their both great motors that will go through a whole lot of shit.

 Re: Mud runs
Makes me feel good to hear you say that, being one of only 2 ProDrives at the Henderson run ::D: BUT, I'll say that in PURE mud a GTR does have the advantage for some of the reasons mr phuckstick has mentioned above. Other than that it's mostly personal preference. Just wait til after the duck season when the rides take place down in Montegut and SETX to see what I'm taking about. Both motors will get the job done

 Re: Mud runs
Marsh Mud-GTR(reverse is more efficient in the mud due to the reach)(harder to achieve lift than the pd) Vegetation-PD(flushes the bottom of the boat out and you can eat holes 360 degrees)( the outdrive length and depth it trims is crucial to driving straight mud)
Hycinth on top of mud- SOL you gonna work your ass off

 Re: Mud runs
Was checking out possible duck hole spots haha. That picture was due to me seeing if I could take that sharp turn wide open and the ran into the typical "balanced motor" problem
As far as pd vs gtr most of places we have rode on two rides that people got stuck was veg so maybe when we find some mid flats the gtr will shine. I still think that reverse plate hurts gtr in veg than does it any good.
As far as testing driving each I don't many people that will allow other people drive there rigs through veg and mud flats

 Re: Mud runs
A PD out-performing a GT in ANY condition is proof perfect that mental retardation does exist.
Crews, shut the fuck.

 Re: Mud runs
99.9999999% of mudmotor owners don't have a need to back up fast.
However, most have a need to backup.

 Re: Mud runs
I agree. Sometimes i get temporarily stopped and i think to my self "Self, i wish i had a GTR." Then other times, I land it in some heavy roso's and think to my self "Self, I am glad i have a PD." Then all the time, i think to myself "Self, why do people still own GDSD's?"

 Re: Mud runs
I can PROMISE you I paid less for my whole rig. If I wanted to go fast, I would not own a MM. That is the same reason I do not mod my motor. Only reason I would ever mod a motor is for load carrying but I am doing fine running stock
