I just recently had trouble with selling an outboard because I didn't have a title. I am about to buy my first mud motor and I have heard that mud motors don't need titles. Is this true? Do they not transfer titles?

Yep - Texas requires a title for all outboard motors which
in their eyes includes mud motors both longtail and surface drives....

Texas requires titles, although they don't require annual registration. I say screw em, I'll keep a bill of sale and thats it. They get enough of my damn tax money

According to the TP&W official I talked to no title is needed on an air cooled engine. I didn't argue with them and proceeded to just title my boat. Same deal with the airboat engine.
