Took a lot of searching but i found it....Remove the spider gears and install a mini-spool...This then locks the axles together.Cost about $85 and a case of beer for my buddy. So i can use his lift. :D

Well good luck that. Those crappy ass rear end in those trucks suck ass. If it is a half ton truck it is just a measly old 10 bolt 8.5" ring gear, c clip axle. But you could have just welded the side gears to the spider gears for the cost of welding rods and a welder if your buddy has one. What size tries you want to run?
If you want to keep it light but strong i suggest going to the 9.5" 14 bolt semi float axle. It has the same axle tube diameter as the 1 ton rear chevy axle 3-3/8" OD, thicker shafts than the 10 bolt, a 9.5" ring gear, and it is still a c clip axle.
The weak link of a 10 bolt axle is the factory locker. If you have an open carrier in there you may be lucky, but if you have the G80 (gov-lock) / Gov Bomb  you will still need to buy an open carrier to house the mini spool. And you are only as stong as the stock axle shafts and stock open carrier with a mini spool.
Good Luck.

HAHA would you like a used 3.42 ring and pinion for a 10 bolt? Im pretty sure they are all the same. It had about 150k miles on it and it is in good shape.
it came from my old 96 Z-71 I had changed the 3.42's to 4.56's. Lemme know if ya need em.

just weld the spider gears.
putting a mini spool in there will only cause the carrier or the spider gear shaft to break.
welding will do the same thing but only cheaper.
I ran my jeep on 35's with a welded rear diff and it held.
but weather you weld it or mini spool it you will break the carrier or the cross shaft.
Personally I would put a full spool, truss the axle, and keep plenty of spare shafts with me.

There are many upgrades you can do and the axle will still remain stock. Stock differentials have different ratios from the facotry so that is someones advantage/disadvantage. By stock We are assuming you cannot upgrade to 3/4 or 1 ton running gear.
