Post subject:  a/uminum gas tank ...

I would like to buy or make a alum gas tank for my plateboat. My thoughts are to have it about a foot or so wide,70" long and about 4-5 inches thick. That way its flat on the bottom of the boat and will be mounted all the way back just infront of the motor. I will be able to lay tackle on top of it or walk on it. Any thoughts as to why this will not work or why this is a really good idea. I'm thinking a single sheet of .125 alum will handle job from start to finish. I would tackle this myself but concerned of leaks.
If this is a good idea and you can make one for me let me know how much it will cost. Or if you know someone who would be interested in making one for me let me know the number. I will be happy to call and work out the details.

i don't know how the boat sits, but u might want to put the tank up front next to the front deck. u could put a step into it to get to the front deck easier.

fuel tank next to the transom = sunk boat.

or maybe saddle tanks one on each side of the boat.

or put the tank in the floor like they do on offshore boats.

i think u could build the tank, just weld in small sections so u don't warp it and pressure test it with water to check for leaks. lots cheaper and will test ur skill !!!!!!!!

btw, momma is laid off, so canada might not happen.
