Not sure if y'all SETX boys saw this on the news Saturday night but the people involved where all ok just a little startled .. My good friend was in the boat and just told me the story 5 minutes ago as he was at my house and showed me the news article had it thrown way off .. A tug was goin through the intercostal and an high rate of speed throwing A large wake .. After about the 5th big roller 2 breakers came over the bow and filled the boat to about 8-10 in from going over the transom everything floating and the water shorted the bilge pump .. Good thing for a hand bilge that always stays in the boat for that particular reason .. Just a reminder for everyone to be safe out there .. It didn't even occur to them to get the name of the vessel for a possible report to CG .. I know it happens but usually they have some sort of courtesy for small vessels but this captain didn't give a shit just kept on rolling .. Sent from... who cares.. |

If that tug would of sunk boat that tug would have to buy that guy a new rig . Law states you are responsible for your own wake so if damn or loose boat the guy making the wake us responsible. Well in louisiana it does not sure about Texas |

They could give the time and gps coordinates to the USCG and narrow down the search. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Yea I'm not exactly sure on the law here in TX .. My dad used to be a dock foreman right around the same area and he had always told me they would report every icidemce like this and the tug company would usually receive a hefty fine .. But that was 10 yrs ago .. Now he just sits in an office .. I believe they are still supposed to slow to a minimal or no wake passing the docks to help not damage the infrastructure Sent from... who cares.. |

Man I didn't hear that. I'm glad everyone is ok. They are bad about that. Me and my buddy had almost the same thing happen to us. We were fishin a point right by the cut to the gsu outlet and a ship was comin up pretty quick suckin all the water off the bank and a big roller was pushin all the water back up on it. I'm glad my buddy was watchin or we would of been swamped or pushed way up on the bank. We his the cut just in time. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Not sure exactly where around Texaco Island or what time it was, but Moran is keeping a couple tugs in the old slip between the Island and our rail yard. I was down there working Saturday until around 1:30-2:00 & one of the tugs took off to go catch a ship that was heading up the ICW toward Beaumont. Didn't look like he was throwing that big a wake tho. Something a lot of folks seem to forget, the waterways aren't just for our pleasure. There is A LOT of revenue transported to & from on the ICW, especially here in SETX. I hate these folks were swamped, & very thankful that everyone is ok, but we're not the big fish out there. I don't ever ride a bicycle down I-10, & I stay off the ICW in my small boat as much as possible. Not trying to sound disrespectful to your friends, just trying to put it in a different perspective. |

Trust me they know they aren't the big boat out there and yes I know numerous revenue opportunities come from the ICW all the way up Neches and surrounding ports.. .. I wanna day it was right at dark or maybe a little after .. Being safe and respecting all boat traffic .. Just sucks it happened period Sent from... who cares.. |
