Just a heads up, Texas is cracking down on people not registering their boats AND motors. Turning $450 tax & title fees into nearly $1000 after fines, & possible criminal charges for tax evasion. Figured I'd let yall know before anyone else got caught up in it like my buddy did. |

Doesn't have to be registered yearly like the boat, just titled, right? How would they even know? Its not like you carry a title around with you... |

Just titled. But when you purchase in Texas, you are supposed to change the registration and pay the sales tax within something like 2 weeks or face escalating fines. Not just for motors, also trailers, cars, etc. |

Yeah, just titled. The state has actually created a special task force just for this. You have 20 days from date of purchase to register & pay the sales tax (which is really what it all boils down to). Say you buy a rig, & register just boat & trailer, then sell the rig a 2 years later. That guy finances it thru bank. BAM!!! You just got hit for back taxes for the motor & 2 years worth of penalties & interest. There's other scenarios also, but that's the most common. |
