I was "diagnosed" with it. Recommended to use machine but I opted not to. i coulndt come to use that thing for the rest of my life. and i was told was you start, you really should not stop. heard of stories of people passing away without it.

How do you know if you have it. My wife says that sometimes when I sleep I gasp for air or I pause of a minute.

They hook u up to all these damn wires and watch u sleep for a night. Like u can with all those fuking wires on u! But I have a machine seemed to help at first but now not so much I just stay tired all time prolly need to sleep with it again! And yes ppl do die when they quit breathing in there sleep! Machine makes u breath in ur sleep

Sometimes there's a surgical solution, but I was talking with my officemate and he said in his case the Dr. said it was only 50% effective.

Did your doctor mention that route?

I went to sleep with the wires on. If the cpap works on me, i'll use it. Just dont know if i can sleep with a mask on, I'm gonna find out though.

If u can sleep with wires, then no problem! Just get a full face mask I don't like the nose mask bc if u open ur mouth feels like u are gonna choke

Post subject:  Re: Sleep Apnea

i was meaning that once you start the machine, if you try to quit cold turkey. it could be fatal. not likely, but family member at my mothers church went out of town and forgot machine and passed away in his sleep. this happen right when i was tested and said I'll try my luck without.

my case was that my breathing would stop and heart beat would stop. its been about 8 years since i tested last but if i remeber correctly they said i would go up to 1.5-2 minutes without breathing. i was actually in 2 car wrecks due to sleeping at wheel which was related to my sleep apnea.

one thing that i believe has helped me a lot was change of diet. i do still fill tired but not to the point like i was in my late teens/ early twenties.

I will agree with the diet and exercise helps! I have quit the gym due to working a bunch of 16 hrs and I seem to feel lots more tired then when I worked out a lot

Exercise is best way to fight off having to use cpap. Friends I have that do use a cpap swear by it, they will not travel without. Those same friends do little exercise. A few years back I began having sleep trouble, waking up tired, excessive snoring, and gasping for air in sleep. I changed my diet and began to do intense cardio exercise, all my sleep problems went away.

Im a nurse, my wife is a respiratory therapist. Only way to know if you actually have sleep apnea is to have a sleep study done. If you have it and have it bad enough, it could kill you in your sleep. But that is very very very rare.
It's a simple fix. If you have it get the CPaP machine. You can get one of the new masks that only covers your nose. Don't need the full face masks like they had in the day. They are much more comfortable to use now. You will sleep a shit ton better with it.
If you don't have true sleep apnea and just snore like a freaking bear like I do. The mouth pieces made by dentists work pretty good, mine almost eliminates my snoring.
Weight loss and healthy diet will help too.

Instead of having to sleep hooked up to a machine at night...... You could just manage your diet and do some exercise. God didn't design us to be obese, when you are, you have problems.

Been using a CPAP for about 10 years, whether at home or travelling. if I'm at the duck camp I run it off a deep cycle battery.

The local supplier should work with you to find a mask that is OK for you. If the pressure sems high at first, then you usually can choose an option to ramp up the pressure slowly over a few minutes so it is easier.

I say better to get the CPAP first to reduce any health risks from apnea, then you can safely go on an exercise plan, get retested and determine if/when you will safely be able to do without one.

I was at sleep study last night when I started this topic. Started out with the mask for just the nose, they changed that to the full mask when I started snoring. It was a horrible experience, didnt feel like i slept at all. I went home and slept half the day. Guess I'll have to see when i get the cpap home. guess i'll be back on weight watchers, I lost 16 pounds earlier in year.
