For those that have done this how do you remove the engine off the transom? Do you use an engine hoist to assist or a couple of buddies to help lift it?

I'm also looking for an engine stand that can support the GTR or new outboard would something like this work, anyone have a place cheaper?

I used a motor hoist to take it off and set it on a homemade set of saw horses.

I use a hoist. Used a ratchet strap or a come along before i had the hoist.

I'll trade you an offshore fishing trip for one of my patent pending, high performance stands.

Basically a metal saw horse. I have added wheels to roll it around. 2x4 square tubing and 2x2 square tubing.

i used a engine lift and built a wooden stand for under $20 to hold motor

I use the hoist on my service truck and a saw horse with the right thickness board bolted to it. Works fine.

Sounds like I need someone to fab me up a stand then... I was going to buy an engine lift at an autoparts store here locally.

And when hoist doesn't reach into bed of truck or you can do this to pull off boat lmao

How long is it safe to leave "hanging"? It will be a few weeks before I get a stand but can get an engine hoist easily

There is no problem with hanging a motor for ever. But I wouldnt trust the hydraulic ram on those cheap motor hoist to keep it up for that long. Seen too many of them leak down.

Put an eye on the doorway of the shed an used a chain hoist

Are y'all using the loft points mounted to the valve covers? I didn't know if they could be trusted to hold the motor and frame up or not.

I just pick them up by hand and set them on the work bench:grin:

I used a boom from a tractor but at work we have chain fall hoist for pulling floor plugs and that woulda been my next choice I'm pretty sure you could find one pretty cheap if nothing else.

Here's one

I used an engine hoist to put it on, so I'm sure that's what I'd use to take it off.

For a stand, I'd just build one out of wood like the pallet it came on.

I have a chain hoist you can use if you go that route, its been sitting since my GG endeavor.

Is that set at a 20· angle?
