 Life vests
I went for years not wearing one but have been pretty consistant for the last several months now. Put in at the river today and saw several W&F and Sheriffs vehicles with trailers. Lady at the launch told me someone had been missing on the river since sunday. Said they found his boat beached monday morning but think he must have fell in. I passed several boats dragging the river on my way to the blind. Guys family and friends were all at the launch waiting. Pretty sad. Yall be safe out there. When chit happens it happens quick. http://www.ktbs.com/news/search-underwa ... st-boater/

 Re: Life vests
I do not wear mine but a friend was fishing a bass tournament a few years back down here and had an accident. He does not remember what happened but he was running a bayou that runs parallel to a small 2 lane highway and hit a guide wire for a telephone pole that was run into the water.
He was found floating in the water with severe head injuries by a passing car. It took him months to recover and he could not remember alot of things for along time and to this day he does not fish like he used to.If he did not have it on we would have lost him for sure.
What is known about the accident is another boat was coming around a turn on the wrong side and he got as far over as he could to avoid the other boat and hit the cable. The other boat did not stop to assist.

 Re: Life vests
I wear my jacket every time I get in the boat. I made this a habit to set an example for my daughter. It made it easier for me to get her to wear one. I don't believe in "Do as I say not as I do". I'm not preaching to or judging anyone for not wearing one. Did I mention that I am in the safety business?
By the way this is the new regulation for the LA Wildlife and Fisheries
PERSONAL FLOTATION DEVICES Every person 16 years or younger on board a Class A(less than 16 feet) or Class 1(16 to less than 26 feet) motorboat or vessel shall wear a coast guard approved life jacket or life preserver while such outboard motorboat or vessel is underway. The regulation becomes effective August 15, 2009. This law previously stated that children 12 and under were required to wear PFD's.
All persons onboard a Class A motorboat which is being propelled by a hand tiller outboard motor shall be required to wear a USCG approved Type I, II, III, or V personal flotation device while the motorboat is underway. A handtiller outboard is described as an outboard motor that has a tiller or steering arm attached to the outboard motor to facilitate steering and does not have any mechanical assist device which is rigidly attached to the boat and used in steering the vessel, including but not limited to mechanical, hydraulic, or electronic control systems. Hand tiller outboard motor shall not mean any type of electronic trolling motor.

 Re: Life vests
Academy has some camo ones you can wear. Go try them on.
I own one tan "extrasport", that has zipper pockets. I really like it but a little bulky
One stearns and one other both camo. I think they all came from Academy.

 Re: Life vests
I just wear the standard Stearns 3 piece vest. I tried on some inflatables but I don't like the way they ride around my neck area. Plus I don't know how the manually inflated models can even be legal since you could be out before you go into the water. I have heard of the automatic models not working too. Like anything else after time I don't notice it anymore.

 Re: Life vests
I have 2 different types I wear.
One with more floatation (buoyancy) incase I'm wearing my waders (I'll throw that one on)
the other an auto inflatable one that I wear when I'm by myself or in low light & night conditions that just has a little less buoyancy than the other.
If its during the day and I'm with a friend I really don't have one on but its in the boat near my feet and out for quick access. Doesn't do you any good if your not wearing it though...

 Re: Life vests
They still haven't found a body. And they been looking just north upriver of my blind. Hope they find it soon to bring closure to the family. Would hate to think that you had to go through the rest of your life wondering what happened to a family member.
