New Crawfish Boiler
FInally built my a new boil rig. I had pictures on here before of the one I had built with the burner tubes inside the pot like the cajun fryers. Well that one was just kind of an experiment to see if it would work, and since it did, I finally got around to building a new one, and trying to improve upon the design.
I added some 1/2" round rods into the burner tube, to sort of act as a reverse heat exchanger. I also turned the tube down out the bottom of the pot, then double bottomed the pot to try and make use of the exhaust heat.
I ran out of daylight yesterday evening to do much testing, but it got 30 gallons of water boiling in about 18 minutes, but that is with just a 10 psi fryer regulator and a single flame. Whats awesome about it is ther is no stray heat, just gentle hot air coming out the louvered discharge. I still need to place with the orrifice some, think i need to pull more air in , but all and all I'm pretty pleased with the outcome.

Re: New Crawfish Boiler
I've been seeing more and more boilers like that in the past two years. My girlfriends dad has a miniature one and its damn nice to cook with. Quick easy and simple.

Re: New Crawfish Boiler
Resurrect an old thread.
How is that internal burner working out? Still going well? Any different modifications?

Re: New Crawfish Boiler
Working well. It's amazingly efficient. Can boil 9 sacks of crawfish on a regular little 5 gallon propane tank.
Seems to be holding up well. I think there is still room for improvement on the actually burner design. I'd like to build another one just to try something new and different, but I just aint had the time.
Between travel obligations with work, building a new house and had another baby, I hadn't built a boat or done any welding work in probably over a year.
Sorry to any one who is hit me up on here for anything! I'm finanlly getting caught up and hope to get back to welding. Any one needed anything from me, hit me up again

Re: New Crawfish Boiler
I'm about in the same boat. Forming up a 40 x 60 slab in the next couple weekends. Going to build the shop myself, so you will probably get a jump on me, but I hope to be up and going by early/mid summer.
I have about an 3/4" to 1" (id have to measure to be sure) of clearance between the burner tube and the bottom of the pot. No problems at all with stuff getting caught under it, and it even allows you enough room to get a soap and sponge in there. The first one I built like this, I had hardly any clearance under it, and did have a little bit of an issue, although not that bad with claws getting caught under it.
I use that large opening flat expanded metal for the basket, and that's about the only thing you have to contend with getting out of the basket is a few small claws.
I've used 3" square tubing on all the boilers and fryers I've built. Square corner 1/8" wall. I think that 3" or 4" pipe would make for a nicer look and easer cleaning, but you loose a lot of surface area going with pipe over the square tube, and in turn I don't think it would work nearly as well.
