Budget Hunting Canoe project
Thought a small light boat would be very useful, especially in the local refuges I no longer have a rig for.
I got on Craigslist and basically lowballed ever canoe within 25 miles. Scored an old aero craft aluminum canoe for 100 bucks.
It looked exactly like you'd expect a 100 dollar Craigslist canoe to look.
I then worked on the inside specifically. First we took the old seats out. Then we sanded.... we sanded a lot. Then we acid washed and taped off the outside edges. We then laid an aluminum self etching base primer.
Then a base layer of tan.
Then I just did an old fashioned large blotch camo paternity. (I had already started playing with the grass stencils some in this pic)
After that I made some grass stencils from old cardboard.
Then are just layered various patterns of grass until I got here.
Finished it off with a flat clear coat, then I reupholstered the seats.
And the interior was done!
Now for the exterior..... what else! Gator Glide
I sanded.... a lot. But gatorglide sticks way easier than any rattle can paint. The canoe being aluminum it was easy to apply. Actually this was the easiest task of the project.
And here is my final product.

Canoes like that literally last forever if you treat them good.
Ive got a sportspal my dad bought back in 75 that has 8000 dents but it works good!

Re: Budget Hunting Canoe project
Real good! I have an old 17' seanymph I have sanded down...no fancy camo just rustoleum rattle can it... did get some hydroturf for the floor, it gets hot in the sun and the turf stays cool and reduces noise a bit. Next thing is to fab a rack for it for my pickup truck.

Re: Budget Hunting Canoe project
That thing turned out phenomenal! You definitely didn't half-ass any part of your project. From prep, to the seats, to the various coats of paint with different materials. Your hard work shows in the finished product. Have fun with your "new" toy!!

Re: Budget Hunting Canoe project
Ratchet on the bow, across the center, and in the extender. It stays good enough.
