I've never seen a black duck that I know of. Shot enough pintails that I don't care if I ever see another one of those leary bastards. . Would love to be able to say "ok, no more black ducks, got the limit"

Mottled Duck/Black Duck/Mexican Mallard/Black Mallard(are grouping these together, limit was 1 of these as a group not 1 each), only seen those when I lived in Aransas Pass, hunting Red Fish Bay and Bayside. Them damn things would keep coming to the decoys are getting the 1 a piece you where allowed. but they did make good confidence decoys for the rest of the ducks. These duck look so similar that the only way to tell them apart is to do a ground test!

We shoot a ton of black ducks and very few pintails. Wouldn't mind shooting a bunch of pintailsinstead of black ducks.

Re: Just thought I'd leave this here...
I think its a great thing. I wouldn't mind the daily bag limit dropping all together...the birds could use the boost. Actually i dont think it would be a bad idea even to drop the daily bag down to 3 or so on a fairly regular basis, like every 4-5 years. We would have outstanding population numbers...they just get wore out in general for 100 or so days by hundreds of thousands of hunters every year. I dont think they would complain about a break lol

The issue with that is having the food sources and breeding/hatching grounds for the number of birds you're talking. Those historic numbers were sustainable because we had the farming and wetlands to support them. That's not the case nowadays.

Re: Just thought I'd leave this here...
Its all relative to where your at though....for me the pintails get educated after the first week of season. Wood ducks have pretty well rolled out after the 2nd or 3rd week depending on weather. These regs honestly wouldn't change much for me.

Never seen a black duck until this year. I found a home with 50 of them bastards, I shot my one right at shooting light and I couldn't do anything but watch the 49 other black ducks crashing through the tree tops.
