Anyone have this procedure? I'm on the verge of needing bi-focals and I'm thinking of getting both eyes corrected to see far and then if need be go to cheater/reading glasses.

Any advice?

I didn't get it, but I paid for my wife to get it.
best $2k I've ever spent in my life. Don't have to worry about contacts or glasses. Your vision is 20/20 immediately after surgery. Very much worth it

She got both done for distance, and she can read just fine.
My wife was just about legally blind before the surgery.
She has never had to put on a pair of glasses since.
Her depth perception is just fine. You will not be disappointed.

My advice would be to get the insurance plan for follow up surgerys. My wife had it one and it was great but after about 5 years now she needs glasses again.

I had absolutely terrible vision and had the procedure done back in October. I now have 20/15 vision and absolutely recommend it to anyone. I talked to a lot of people before I had it done and they all told me the same thing. However, I wasn't told how many restrictions there are. It could just be specific to each doctor, but there are quite a few things you can't do for the first couple months after surgery. Keep in mind, you can't let water spray you in the face or swim anywhere for a few months. Keep this in mind when you decide what time of year to have it done. Even with that, still worth it. Just make sure you don't skimp and try to find the cheapest place available. Remember, this is your eyes you're talking about.

X's 2!

You will need to wear glasses for a while, and no boat rides for a few months, you want your eyes to heal, and not let the wind blow the flap open on your eye ball.

My wife didn't go in a boat for 6 months. Maybe overkill, but we've have 0 issues.

I had to wear protective glasses when sleeping for the first week so that I didn't rub my eyes and then you have to wear sunglasses outside all the time because your eyes will be very sensitive, but I do that anyway. Also, my doctor told me not to touch my eyes at all for 3 months. You don't realize how often your eyes itch until you can't touch them, but I've gotten used to that now. Also, be prepared to put artificial tears in your eyes for possibly up to a year. The first 3 days I had to put them in every 15 minutes and it was super annoying, but well worth it. It's really life changing for anyone who has worn glasses or contacts for most of their life. Even now, nearly 6 months out, I still catch myself thinking I have to take my contacts out at night.

Thanks for the replies guys. They guy I had the consult made me feel pretty confident in his ability--he's done 100,000 procedures including some superstar athlete's. Not the cheapest, but as stated above it is your eyes.

That's good to know the recovery can be pretty involved too. I thought it was just drops for a few months

I'm just trying to think through the whole reading glasses thing--I'm on the edge for bifocals and I didn't think of things like boating and being able to see far and then looking down to read a depth finder or GPS on my phone and having trouble. I hate wearing glasses boating--especially duck hunting up here with fogging up, water spray etc and being blind at 4:30AM when it's pitch black.

Had it done a few years back, and the outcome was great. Recovery was super quick, like less than a week. It isn't the cure all some think tho, as you age you vision will change once again.

I had it done probably 16 years ago here in Minneapolis by Dr David Harden (sp?) at Minnesota eye consultants. It has been great!! I am now 50 and am about 2 years into the reading glasses thing. My close vision is getting so bad that i really cannot get away without the readers to do anything. there is no way in hell i could tie a hook on fishing line, and many other things you take for granted when you are younger. I really can't even see my cell phone to look at text messages without the cheaters. I can't even imagine having the procedure to have one eye done for distance and one for close distance. I would be worried about losing my depth perception. I would ask a lot of questions before i would go that route. Bye the way, it cost me about $4k back then and there wasn't any insurance plans available back then.

If I would be able to, I've got a video of the whole operation on my phone. But not enough service out here in the middle of the gulf for me to upload it.

I had mine done in 2010. One of the best decisions I've ever made. Just go for it!

Best thing I ever did... I was the exception and had tons of terrible pain for the first 12 hours in one eye. I would do it again because of the results.

BTW- the prices are VERY negotiable if you tell them you're going to get another quote from the other place. They came down $1000 an eye to keep me from walking out of there. Plus they gave 0% financing for 24 months.

I looked into it but I'm too far sighted. There's a member on here that is an ophthalmologist who gave me some good advice on it. It can be done for me but I would have to have a lens replacement.

Got the surgery yesterday. So far pretty good. I'm 20/15 in my right eye and 20/20 in my left. Things still need to settle down a lot though. I am seeing halos on bright lights which will hopefully go away.

Pain wasn't bad. Just felt like burning on the drive home. I only needed tylenol and ibuprofen for the first 6 hours. Nothing today.

Weird not needing glasses to see in the morning after 27 years!

I did it when I was 30. now i'm 49 and my vision is 20/20. I started using cheaters every now and then this year. it was the best money I ever spent.
