One of my buddies shot this this weekend. We think its some type of muscovy duck hybrid maybe. It flew in with a wood duck. Its about the size of a mature snow goose.

Did it weigh about seven pounds?

I didn't put it on a scale. My buddy took it with him from the ramp. But it was nearly twice the size of some of those big fat greenheads that made their way down this weekend.

i have never saw one like that but my fiances uncle has a pintail/mallard on the wall that is one of the prettiest thing i have ever seen when it comes to ducks i will try to get some pics of it.

Looks like these We had them come in last summer they look like muscovy cross with a green head they are F'n huge we have muscovy and green heads and they are way bigger than the muscovys where did you kill it?

This one sure aint pretty. And it's bigger than a canvasback. Thats the only reason I don't think its a hybrid of two smaller ducks. Genetics do weird things I guess, but the only duck I could find in the same size category is the muscovy, which is one of those tame ducks you see in the city. None of them look the same either, and they'll breed with anything, so it could be a hybrid with a smaller wild duck. Just curious to hear what other peoples thoughts are. It was not shot anywhere near a place that has tame ducks, and I have never seen a tame duck on the lake. Been hunting it for about ten years now. Never see em on ponds anywhere nearby or nothing.

The feet color may have something to do with the bread of muscovy or maybe the mallard wasent pure bread or vice versa I'm not sure I'm no expert

How did it taste

He's was gonna take its to the taxidermist to identify it, so we'll never know. Hell I'd a mounted the thing, just for shock factor. I would assume its completely legal. It was mixed in with wild birds.

Hybrids get shot all the time. You can't tell me all those people know exactly what their shootin before they squeeze the trigger. I can identify my birds usually, never gone over my limit on hens, pins, woodies, cans, you know. I know what ur sayin though. Glad we didn't get stopped, he was there on sat and stopped everyone. I went sun.

Here is an oddity I shot. I think its a wood/malard mix

Yeah, I'm guessin you could fight the ticket. But what a pain in the arse that would be. That one you shot is purty neat. I've never seen a hybrid like that up close. Same kid that shot this one this weekend shot a pin/mallard last year. Guess he's good at spotin the freaks. I thought that thing was a water turkey when it flew over, we busted the woodie that came in with it too.

It closely resembles a Bull Mallican Widgeontailed Sprig. That would be my guess.
