Post Need your thoughts?
My goal is to upgrade to a surface drive, leaning towards a Gator Tail.
I currently run a 2000 Lowe 1760mt. This has been a great boat for me and I plan to keep it.
I have been running a MB longtail, 35 with pipes, and Mikuni carb.
I had pods put on the boat which made a big difference in getting on plane.
I can run 12-13 with 2 guys dog and gear with the Long tail.
I have been happy with it for 15 years, but as I get older, the work I get day in and day out is wearing on this old guy.
I ran my buddies surface drive and was sold that I needed to upgrade and pick up some more speed and ease of operation.
Now if I could run in the 25MPH range, that would be great, I don't need any more than that, so a stock motor at this point might be all I need.

Does anyone run this boat or something similar?

I'm looking for your thoughts on putting 35 or 37 Gator tail on my Lowe 1760mt?
I will be putting the motor on the transom, which is not extended like most boats are today.
Will I need to add more support to the transom?
Will the pods impact performance or if it does will it be negligible?
Also, between these 2 motors, what would you say the 2-3 main differences are? ie speed, self-repairability, if I would make a few changes, which motor would be easier to work on?

Thanks

Steve

Cut the pods off. a flat bottom boat would be better, and it May not work like a true mud hull, but it will "work"
Difference between the 35 and 37 is EFI and Most have electric reverse. If you buy a 35 new, I'm certain it comes with electric reverse.
You ask about repairs. If you go EFI, you will probably have to bring it into a shop for most issues.
You would see better speeds with the 37, but in most cases, if you have the carb'd motor and have issues, you can limp back home.
Its all up to you.

There are a lot of threads on the questions you are asking.

You just have to sort thru and then evaluate for yourself what you want.

Here is one that has some info for you.

I still stand by my post on that thread...

Wow! Nice thread. All I want to do is go 20mph in 2 feet of water.
I have more research to do. Thank you.

Brace your transom good for a surface drive, hang a 35-37hp GTR, MB, or PD, and you will see 20+ mph with 2 people.
Given the bottom of your boat doesn’t have any dents
