I'd like to start this by saying I'm NOT posting this as an Internet scouter. I don't want to know your honey hole or even the area you hunt.

Which lake in Texas hosts the most migrating birds in your opinion? I'm studying the flyways and I'm curious to see what you guys have to say based on experience.

I live on Lake Livingston and hunt private land, so I don't really have any desire to venture out and hunt new lakes (your honey hole is safe), but if it makes you feel better, just inbox me and tell me what your vote is.

Private land near lake livingston. That's where the birds are.

I figured everyone would be tight-lipped; I know internet scouting is a sore subject these days. I really didn't post this with intensions of trying to find a new place to hunt. I just want to know which lake hosts the mosts birds every year, and why. I would be curious as to what that lake has that the others don't, and if it's something that can be added to private land to make it more attractive to migrating ducks.

I think the west Texas lakes hold more birds in steady numbers than anywhere else. Lake Comstock, Choke Canyon, Lake Falcon, etc..

They may not hold the amount as some east TX lakes, but they don’t get the pressure and hold a steady number year round.

My post was a joke lol. There are a few birds out that way. If anyone has ever hunted hill country stock ponds they know how good it can really be out there. That far out west though, they are so unreliable and spotty it's not worth trying to hunt them.

Everyone knows there's no ducks in Texas anyway. They stop in arkansas and go straight to South La

Oh I was being serious lol. I know several people way out that way that always have birds on that lakes. I’ve hunted choke canyon several times and have never been disappointed. Its just to damn far to drive

Lake Ralph Hall would be #1. Lower Bois'dark Creek resevoir #2. Marvin Nichols might come in #3 but that spot may belong to Lake Bonham

To give you a practical answer, South East Tx coast between Houston and Beaumont to be specific. It’s no secret so might as well be honest with you about it.

There was a old historical ranch there all the way up to the 90’s or so that was referred to as some of the best duck hunting in the country, it was called Barrow Ranch. There’s a portion of that property that is owned by the remaining family members that still has not been sold off to the refuge.. I Hunt the largest portion of that remaining property and I can tell you that on any given day there’s more ducks in the area than anywhere else in the state.

If you want to pm me I can give you numbers on what we killed, and I also have access to the numbers the east unit killed, as well as the per hunter averages...I can also tell you a rough estimate on the average number of birds the refuge system holds on any given day...

I hunted Barrow Ranch with my Dad back in the early or mid 1960's. I remember Mr. Joe Lagow managed it. Turned out my wife taught school with one of his twin daughters. I believe she died of complications of Lyme Disease. Joe's son was killed in a tractor accident . One daughter still living. The Lagow family ended up with a chunk of land, not sure how much.
The large Barrow family immigrated from the Opelousas Louisiana area and acquired a large amount of land in mostly Chambers County, and some in Liberty County.
But yeah, that's where the ducks are.
