The State of Louisiana has put a bounty out for Nutria's due to them tearing up our Marshes. This has been going on for a number of years. THOUGH, Please read the following :

Anyone Hunting Nutrias needs to be extremely careful. (I know everyone already is. Also, a loaded gun never kills anyone)

Story #1
A few years ago, my cousin (Leonard Toups) got shot in the back of the head while shooting Nutrias for the tail. It was him and his other cousin. Leonard was sitting in the passenger seat. the Driver aimed to shoot, and Leonard stood up to see over the Grass Rake. BANG.. .22 to back of head. Thank God, Leonard survived after being in ICU for many months, and finally coming out of his Coma. Leonard is now married, and has a Beautiful Newborn Daughter.

Story #2
I was just told by the LAWF, that a Man was shot in Terrebonne Parish this weekend while hunting Nutrias. Same scenario as above. Except, the Driver of this Airboat had a shotgun.. It was said the the victims 8yr old son was sitting on the side of him. So, In conclusion a 8yr old not only lost his father, but witness his fathers head being shot off.

All, This is very serious and needs to be recognized. Please Be Careful. Think Everything Over Twice. Maybe even 3 times.

A $5.00 tail is not worth a life.

A few years ago my best friend called me and asked if I wanted to go duck hunting with him and his son. There were no ducks around and I passed on going.
The next morning they were set up in a drainage ditch and went to raise up and shoot at some ducks. My buddy slipped in the mud and fired his 3.5" steel shot load point blank into his sons rib cage. He got to pray with his son before he died. Man I can't think of any thing worse than to take your own childs life.

Good for all of us to remember to be a little more cautious.. No duck or anything else is worth it..

Its always horrible to think, and be reminded of tragedies like these, but it is a reality check. Humans make mistakes. We just have to monitor the severity of them.

Nutria tails are worth 5 dollars a piece? Anyone know where you can sell them around texarkana, tx? Seriously.

Check the Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Site. It is too late for this year, but you may beable to sign up for next year.

How about a MMT nutria hunt?

The state pays for proof of elimination of the nutria that are eating up all the vegetation in the marsh, thus allowing for erosion of the limited land left in the La. marsh. Not aware of Ark. doing the same, since there is limited marsh.

What I cain't stand 'bout the NutriaRat is the wasted shootin' and killin' 'em and let 'em just sit out in the backwaters rottin' ....... Burns mines butt up it does ......

I put the Google on them animals and thay had a purpose at one time ... fur, food and so forth. One of these days I'm gonna git me one and skinn him out and put the cook on him.

I am all for shootyin sum nutria but like BROOKS mentioned it pisses me off when people leave da corps rottin in da water. They are sum good eatin.

We had them up here on the ocean side of the Eastern Shore. Evidently our watermen are better than yalls. They managed to decimate the population in no time flat. They had plenty of free time since they had destroyed the rockfish, oyster and crab populations.

It is a tragedy but folks like that dont need to own or handle guns. If you shooting over my head you gonna get an azz whoopin quick. Chit happens every year from careless folks that need to stay at home watching TV and playing video games.

Before Katrina I was getting the money for the tails and a buyer was giving a buck fifty for the tail-less nutria. The buyer did not move back after the storm but I do not have the nutria in large numbers since the last couple of hurricanes anyway.

sounds like he was selling his tails legally but then also selling the carcass to another buyer. Nuthin wrong with dat.... in fact, that's da way it should be done.
