Got a friend that is heading down to New Orleans this coming week for some R n R... He loves real cajun food, and is not real big on up scale dinning... Told him I would ask yall about some spots to get his grub on. Dont have to be in New Orleans, just general area.. Looking for off the beaten path spots to get some local food and drink local beer... And no I didnt use the search at the bottom of the page.... Thanks.... O and he is a good friend so im not tring to get him killed either

 Re: ? for the Coonasses
Acme Oyster House is pretty good if he wants to hit Bourbon St. after a good meal but I'd tell him to keep going south to Houma and try out Cajun Critters in the back of Philos Chevron and its great

 Re: ? for the Coonasses
tell him to drive south to Voleo's in Lafitte. It's only 30 minutes from downtown, but it is about 50 years down the road from New Orleans.
Voleo trained & worked under Paul Prudhomme in New Orleans before returning home to run his family restaurant. Amazing food, unbelieveable pricing, very laid back atmosphere. And if he is there towards closing time, chances are that Voleo will come out and drink a beer or tequilla at the table with them.
Suggested meal: Appetizer: a bowl of oyster & artichoke soup and/or a crawfish enchalada (I like the "and") Entree: Eggplant pirouge or Pasta Diane or Stuffed flounder Desert: I have no suggestions...never made it that far

Kenner's Seafood off of Loyola drive in Kenner. Closest thing to Bayou Cooking.

 Re: ? for the Coonasses
We always go to Oceana on the corner of Conti and Bourbon. The BBQ shrimp and the redfish dishes are the best I've had. It's a low key atmosphere and you don't have to leave the quarter.

 Re: ? for the Coonasses
Stay away from Middendorf's i think its over rated. If you want want thin fried catfish goto New Orleans hamburger and seafood. Voleo's is s good choice.

 Re: ? for the Coonasses
If he wants a muffuletta he has to goto Central Grocery. Yes its in New Orleans but it ain't that bad. The saints won the superbowl, tell him if hes ever in doubt about the people around him just say WHO DAT and it will all be ok. Its off of Decatur St and prob the best muffuletta ever.
