 Re: Mudd
In a nut shell,,,Ive got a pretty good day job and after 4 yrs it just got to be too much.
I spent all last year spending every free minute working on or rigging boats. I cant tell you how many times my kids asked me to do this or do that. Now, Im an all or nuthin kinda guy so its hard for me to have someones rig sitting here and me not work on it. It was always in the back of my mind and really works on me. Neither the kids or the Mrs. ever asked me to quit and wouldnt. I thank God for givin me enough brains to see the strain it was putting on them. Hell, My oldest is 14 so it wont be long before he's his own man and off on his own.
I also thank my good friends like Mitch who came over and took some of the load off me.
There were a few other things that helped trigger it but in the end I just couldnt justify doing it and asking my family to make those sacrifices any more.........
Jim

 Re: Mudd
mudd, your story sounds somewhat familiar. I was a partner in a Mudbuddy and boat dealership here in the Idaho Panhandle. We were not as big as your operation but we were not tiny either. In good years we sold 8-10 motors and a handful of boats.
Like you, I have a career job that provides a nice living. The mud motor side business became too much like a second job. And my business partner, who is retired, was shouldering way too much of the load in the shop. So he owns it now, and I am just a happy user of mud motors and boats.
I have learned that when you take something you are interested in and turn it into a business, you lose some of your joy for it in the end. And I agree with you that family comes first. We all have one shot to bring our kids up right. I don't want to be one of those "woulda, shoulda, coulda" folks later in life, realizing all to late that I'd blown the opportunity to give my kids all of the support and time they needed from me.
Kudos to you for making what sounds like a good decision.

 Re: Mudd
Thanks Mudd. Makes perfect sense, I got a 4yr old and a 8 week old. Time is to precious and kids need it more than I do. Thanks for all you did and hope to see ya on the water some time. tom

 Re: Mudd
Well said Mudd! I honestly couldn't see how one could balance the home life, a full time job and a side job without one of them suffering in the end. Now you at least have time to concentrate on getting that pup ready for this season.

 Re: Mudd
I thought you quit cuz you had a bad neck? Something about holding up a watermellon head or something?
