.999999 repeating equals 1

So says my wife. She's a lot smarter than I am. See if she's smarter than you. :lol:

Let x = 0.99999999 (repeating)
10x = 9.99999999 (repeating)

10x - x = 9x
9.999999999 - 0.999999999 = 9
9x = 9
x = 1

but we started with x = 0.999999999

I don't know what half of that shit means.

No - Cougar High - U of H, Cullen Camp....

Thats what Aggies use....

A more accurate approximation of "pi" is 355/113....

Can't get out of your pit space without turning right....

[quote="Mudgun"].999999 repeating equals 1

So says my wife. She's a lot smarter than I am. See if she's smarter than you. :lol:

Let x = 0.99999999 (repeating)
10x = 9.99999999 (repeating)

10x - x = 9x
9.999999999 - 0.999999999 = 9
9x = 9
x = 1

but we started with x = 0.999999999

9.99999 (Rep.) - .9999 (Rep.) = 9 not 9x
Because 10x is = to 9.99999 (Rep.)
therefore : 9.999(Rep) - .999(Rep.) = 9
You start the problem w/ x as a constant @ .999(Rep.) it can't change , but it's close enough to one so round up.
