Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries Beginning July 1, anyone born after Jan. 1, 1984, will be required to succesfully complete a National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA) boating education course to operate a motorboat over 10 horsepower on LA waters. We are offering numerous boating course opportunities for young or inexperience boaters to get ready for time on the water this spring and summer. The free courses are available across the state to assist boaters, fishermen and hunters in meeting the requirement. I fell into this category. One can take this test online so that may help you guys who have Time issues. There are online study guides aswell so that is something to look into. As much of a hassle it can be I think its a great idea. I am FAR from the Best boat operator but I am familiar with my rig, But it is in the best intrest for the people to take this course you may learn something. I will be taking the course online! |

I took a similar course in Texas to operate a jet ski when I was under the age of 16... I think its a good idea and I think it should be required in all states. I think part of the course should be Boat Launching if you f-up 3x you have to repeat the course all over.  and your name gets engraved on the idiot sign at all boat ramps across the state
