I found out year before last after stepping in a beaver run that the theroy of your feet floating up and forcing your head down is true. I used my gun to push myself up to where I could get back on my feet. But 5mm neo is pretty damn bouyant and could be deadly. The simple solution is to role over on your back however in a panic I didn't think of that at the time.

I remember hunting as a kid and having hip boots on. My dad and I flipped the pirogue and he was freaking out b/c he was worried I would sink. My smart ass grabbed my shotgun on first instinct and my dad let his sink into the mud. Somehow he kicked the butt, dove under water and grabbed his gun.

I learned the hardway too. Since then. . . . drake fleece lined pants and hidgeon's ultra lite stocking foot waders. Plus I can friggin move a lot better. Out in deep mud, those neo's would rub my nuts raw.

Its funny you ask Brooks. Me and some friends came damn near sinking a boat last duck season while all wearing waders. So we were all wondering the same thing. I just got a house with a pool and plans for safety training are in the works.
We are going to test these things:
Can you get the waders off while in the water (doubt it)
Does it help to wrap a belt around your waist?
Ive also heard that picking your knees up to your chest will keep the water from entering the waders.

Hopefully we don't drown while testing all this!!

yeah, well we all know we really shouldnt be riding in these boats with waders. but the reality is, that I aint leaving my waders off till I get to the spot, then putting them on to walk through the marsh. Thats y we need to know what the hell to do if you ever find yourself swimming with waders.
I always thought it would be a good idea to develop some sort of knife that could cut through waders but not skin. ya know, like the ones they used to cut casts off of broken arms and things. If anybody has any ideas, I got the contacts in China to get them mass produced.

Post subject:  Re: Neopreme Waders ....

wear a belt. if you step into a hole or trip bow your chest out and it will keep most of the water out. i know this. you should stay dry enough to keep hunting with a shirt and jacket change.

wear a life vest when in the boat. then you wont sink. also a good idea to keep it on at least till day light. nothing like wanderin around in the dark with water up to the waist. then if you fall or step into a hole you wont have to find out if you will sink.

2 or 3 guys wadin around the set in the dark, gets light and one is missing. that would suck, but could really happen.
