I have some concerns over preserving a hide until I get it to the tannery.

Filled my gator tag this weekend. Around 11 pm Sunday.
Took it to a processor for skinning and he said pick up next morning.
Picked it up and all he did was skin it. Didn't flesh or salt it. Waited an hour while he fleshed and salted it.
I think it's fleshed enough. All the pink meat is off but there remains some white stuff.
Tannery says I have to keep it with me until it's stopped weeping. I have changed the salt (non iodized pickling salt) twice in 72 hours since the gator was skinned
Storing it in a lunch box, then the lunch box is inside my yeti with a bunch of ice packs around it. Am I good or should I change my setup? Hoping to get it dry enough for tannery by end of week.

Years ago I used glycerin and antifreeze on a big rattle snake skin. Don't remember the ratio but 15 years later it still looks great.

It would better to salt heavy and let dry. Then off to the tanner.

We use borax on the stuff we trap to help dry it and preserve it. Not sure if it would work on a gator hide.

What about a nice coat of gator glide?
