Whats the legal angle of building these? I see them all the time and always wondered how people got away with it on a public lake?

I know building a permanent structure (anything in place longer than 24 hours) is illegal on most of the lakes I hunt. I still see them back in the cuts on a few lakes though... Some lakes, like Caddo, they are still legal. There was a law stating no new ones were to be built (you could rebuild existing), but doesn't seem like it's enforced...

Brooks, I'm kinda proud how level it is. Me and a friend built it without a level, or a tape measure.

I got the same thing going on right now, I'll take some pics. Got my platform leveled out today, the design is a lot like yours, 12' x 6' blind and a boatway on the side. Have one more to do after this one.

And Brooks, I use a level.

It's not private. It's in trinity bay. I built the blind but legally anyone could hunt it. But seeing how I've got $500 dollars in it I would hope if I pulled up and somebody was hunting they would be courteous enough to make room for me. But u never know when u hunt public. And if they don't make room, I'll just park the boat in front of the blind. Lol.

dang man you spent $500 to build a blind on public that someone else might can beat you too :o  ? why didnt you just save up few more dollars and get on a lease where you know you will have a spot to hunt?

That public land, 1st come 1st serve just seems like an all around bad idea to me. They should take applications for permanent blind locations like they do here, and a lottery type draw gives you a spot for the rest of your life, unless you let it go. If you can't get a spot, then just buddy up or help somebody who got one.

For a decent lease in my area your gonna pay a lot more than $500. And everybody in this area is pretty good about honoring the you built, u own it thing. Doesn't mean it don't happen but for the most part confratations don't happen. The spot I built the blind on had a blind for the past 30 years but the original guy didn't rebuild after Ike. And the spot definately produces on a daily basis. I'll have this spot for the rest of my life or as long as the law allows. Lol

In Lake Bouef, which is a public lake, there are alot of leftover blinds. There are some nice ones. Most are just used opening weekend. Towards the end of the season alot are not used anymore because birds flare alot. I hunted 3 times late last season and hunted different blinds. None were mine. However, if the owner showed up, I'd leave with no issues. If it's not being used. then I'd use it. Keep it clean and leave it just as it was when I showed up in it.

Broz, do you get much tide change there? Seems the floor will be under water if you get 1' or so of water there.

The tide does very alot. If we get a south wind with a high tide the floor will be underwater but the pic was at a "normal" high tide. But my feet be in the water is much easier to deal with than be in the mud and water up to my waist. Ha.

Looks like Bulkhead Cove. Hunted that Bay all my life and will say I have killed more ducks out there in Decemeber and January without a blind. Pick your days to go when the wind is blowing 15mph plus out of the North and you can smoke em.

Sorry Brooks your wrong. Drake1 hit it dead on. Lol. Yeah with a heavy north wind the birds move out of the bay into the cove for protection

and I'm pretty sure he recognized the airboat blind in the background. .

It will be very tough my friend to back back up in there when the water is gone from the North wind. Yes I did notice the airboat blind and the rig in the background. Only thing you have to worry about now is the guy in the Air Ranger that hunts up in there on the East side of the cove.
