Anybody eat them? My brother went out this morning and shot a couple. I've never eaten any. Are they any good?

Cook em on the grill. cut out the breast and season it realy well and then place on a wood plank, cook for 5-7 min., then throw that shitty tasting bird away and eat the wood plank!

I tell everybody that asks me, they are awesome.

Hooded mergansers and the smiley mallards (shoves) are best in gumbo or in the mud and sub them out for a mallard or 2. Which ever you prefer.

I'd just assume eat a Shoveler as I would a Mallard. Its all in how you prep the meat. Shovelers just get a bad rap because of their bill.

Soak them in water in the fridge for 5-6 days, drain the water off of em twice a day to get all the blood out and on the last day marinade it in itallian dressing and whatever else you like... fry it like deer.

I can't tell much difference. You just have to get your head around eating a fish eater. Personally I ain't eatin them. Ain't shootin them if I got a chance to id them.

The ONLY reason I would shoot one is for mounting purposes! I did kill my first ring neck this year, Crews gave me congrats on killing the worst duck there was! Lol
