Went out saturday with Jon (teorod) to do some fishin in a channel on lewisville. We were using cut shad and liver on some jugs and sureshot on RR. Jon told me he had never done the whole juggin thing so I figured this channel would be the best place to do it. Boy was I right. I made up some water bottle jugs with bout 8ft of line. We hit the chanell bout 6:45 a.m. We set out the jugs up the channel and bout 7:05 we were done and just stopped under a shade tree round a bend to get some hooks wetwith the sureshot. The hooks werent in the water 5 mins and Jon pulled in a keeper channel. Then bout 3 mins after that is when one of my pole hit the water and I yanked to set the hook and thats when that sucker took off and the drag sounded like a chainsaw. When I got it to come to the surface I yelled "get the net". We got on the boat and I was astonished as it was my new PB. It weighed in at 18 lbs. We set thwere for bout another hr with no luck. So I figured lets go check some jugs and where the fish are hittin them we will set up there and give it a whril ( I dont have electronics so this is kind of how I try to locate them). We caught a few and checked the rest of the jugs and then went to find some shade as it was heating up pretty goo. We shot the bull for a bit and decided to pull the rest of them up and head in. All in all we woubnd up with 20 and some good size ones. here are some pics. Yes that is a gar, I wanted to try and clean it but when we got done cleaning the rest and I seen how tough it was I decided not to.

gar fish is very easy to clean when u have the know how!! LOL I use a skill saw lay him on his belly and cut from the head to the tail down the back and then from the back bone down by the gills on both sides and the same at the tail then get a filet knife and cut the meat off the scales and then off the body

Cmiller, he can also us a cane knife r machete to cut from the tail to head. He also needs to make a wedge to shove the head into so it can't slide forward. Use a pair of pliers to grab the dorsal fin? To pull on when cutting so his hand isn't so close to the blade.
