Looking for some duck blind pics for some ideas for new blinds. We're planning on building 4-5 to hunt 4-5 ppl with dog access. So if you have em post em plz.

Lol. Thats a lil too big. Ive never been much of a blind hunter but we have a few that need replacing. Also since my dad got hurt he's going to need a place to sit down. No more gorilla hunting for him.

I'll try to get some pictures of a few, I have a three man blind in a oak flat about 10' in the trees.

Three of the corner posts are trees and all the platform is are 2x6's, I just scraped up old deck boards and tin for the walls and roof I probobly dont have 70 bucks in the whole thing.

Here is my blind me and a buddy built before last season since the water was down. We just got it built in time for the season so its actually not even completely done. We are adding more stuff to it this summer and so on before the upcoming hunting season.

I always said if I ever got the chance to build a blind it was going to be built right and exactly like I want! Very little half assing it was done on this thing.

Specs:

20' long
5' wide shooting deck that comfortably hunts 6 people
Roughly 6' wide boat shed
2.5' wide roof over the seats just so you dont get totatlly rained on while hunting
6'x8' storage room or whatever room lol made it big enough to where if a storm pops up and its too much to handle we can go inside and get out of the rain (bow of the boat goes underneath)


Day 1

Pulled a 16' trailer loaded down with all treated lumber... got stuck about 50 yards from the building site


We were working in about 3" of water and mud but hand dug holes and concreted the posts in just to help from sinking


End of day 1


Day 2 - we put the floor in and built the exterior frame for the shooting deck, built a ladder, and put hog panel around the frame for brush.


Day 3 we started building the rest of the frame and put the roof on the boat shed, storage room, and the small roof on the shooting deck.
I dont like blinds with a full roof because you cant shoot straight up, however without a top its hard to stay hidden in a blind of this size. So we built this small roof 7' tall and about 2.5 wide so that we have plenty of room to step up and shoot straight up, be concealed, and stay drier than if there was no roof.



Day 4 we started the "trim out" Added bench seat all the way down and you can lean up against the back wall. The hardest thing about trying to hunt long periods is staying comfortable. just being able to sit down is great, but over time your back starts hurting if you dont have something to lean up against.
The bench is split where you climb up from the boat. Then there is a hinged peice in front of the storage room so you just flip it up to get into the room or down when hunting. Added a shelf all the way down with notches cut for gun barrels to sit in for safety. Every afternoon these 3 teal would come and feed before sunset. They were well within range most of the time. I was running a generator, using skill saw and making all kinds of noise and they never spooked.







I just realized today that I dont have any close ups of the dog station and ramps. All of our dogs are trained to heal and sit on your left. I currently only have one dog and will own more than one but dont think i will hunt with more than one at a time out of this blind. I made about a 3' x 3' platform off of the left side of the blind then built top rail and wrapped hog panel around it for brushing. There are holes cut out of the hog panel for the dog ramps and one that comes into the blind for grabbing birds or if we left the dog inside which rarely will happen because it is a safety issue in my opinion.
There are 2 ramps, one that goes out the front and one that goes out the rear just to give the dog options. Here are pics of the blind brushed and you can see the dog ramp on the right side.




Duck season rolled around and there wasnt much water but we were able to hunt it opening day. I got tired of having to use battery operated lights/lanterns so I decided to put lights in using a 12v RV light bulbs and a deep cycle marine battery. located in the storage room. The wires are romax wire and fixtures are just cheap single flood light fixtures from lowes. Wire are hooked to alligator clips so that i can quickly unhook the battery just in case there is some draw when the switch is off



We only were able to hunt out of it opening day and i went out there working on the lights and little things a couple days and atleast took the gun. We killed 7 opening day and 2 teal the couple days i went out. Water just got lower and lower until the last week of season we hunted it a few more times and killed a few teal.

After the first time hunting out of it, we realized the dog ramp is to steep and too slick so we bought some cheap thin carpet and the dog has no problems anymore.

This year we are adding flip down shooting doors to get better concealment and gas lines for heaters/cookers that will be run to a propane tank in the storage room.

Got slow so we cooked some breakfast dee sausage and toast

about halfway through the season it got dry enough to drive our trucks all the way to the blind




Then finally the last week, we got some huntable water


My buddy Tyler and I went out one morning and got there late and weren't shooting worth a dang but managed 6 teal and a grey drake. Definately could have limited out that morning if shots were better.

WE ARE IN THE STAGE OF BUILDING 2 12'X4' OUT OF 3/4" TREATED PLYWOOD WITH FIBERGLASS. WILL POST FINISHED PIC AT A LATER DATE

I started building my mold to make fiberglass sunkin blinds. Them things are high these days. For about a 8' bling costs you round 1800$. I can build um for 300 in materials.

ITS COSTING ABOUT $800 A PIECE FOR THE 12'. GOT QUOTES FROM A COUPLE OF PLACES THAT WANTED $5-8K

we built ours in rice field in 1 weekend, just some simple 4 by 4s in the ground, a few 2 by 12s, some plywood, and some wire fence (cheapest we could find)

the key is strudy seats and good brush, we wrapped it in the erosion control mesh with the grass weaved it in, it was perfect, then feathered the cane out both sides and around it so it looked like any of the other cane patches around the levees. It hunts 10 comfortable

and we shot some ducks out of it, very hot before first split, right at 350 or so birds.

and pictures of inside, we had to make it cheap because it wasn't going to be up when it came time to plant this year so we will build it again here in a few months

Man blinds are nice but nothing beats just sitting in the brush.

My pop got hit head on by a truck when he was on his bike 2yrs ago. Hes gotta have an easier hunt. This will be his first seaon to hunt since the accident.

Oh i understand now. The main thing I try to stay away from when building blinds is making them square lol you see every blind out there looks just like a box I brush mine up so much that they look natural and I try to go out the day before I hunt it and put new brush on it so it blends well.

Pete, Ive actually seen that blind before in person, thats a extremely well thought out blind, and super nice. Unfortunetely it doesent look like your going to be hunting it anytime soon lol.. Went out there today, everythings grass, cracks, some dirt, and every now and then you may see a puddle of water. its down right sad.

Lets bring this thread back to life, It sure has given me a good few ideas for my upcoming blind. You wouldent happen to have any more pics of that blind would you DMD?
