Post 223 reloader/shooter ?
got a 1in9 twist bolt gun. i am going to use it for coyote and doe removal. so far its just broke in with about 40 rnds of ball. im likin its right at 1/2 with cheep 55's.

what i want to shoot is the barnes tsx bullets. i just bought some factory loaded 55 gr but havent got to put them on a bench. barnes offers 62 gr but not loaded. i know im good with that twist from 55 - 70 gr, but im told the 62 will probally a better bullet, plus for deer i wouldnt mind the extra 12 gr.

question- who has loaded these and your thoughts on the 55 vs. 62.

my intent is to neck or head shoot the does. i want to be safe if ole big boy steps out while doin some doe eradication and i need to put one through the vitals.

.223's have a hard time properly stabilizing 70 gr rounds, and 55 is not optimal for deer. The 62 gr Barnes has been proven an accurate round while providing good penetration. If you are proficient with the rifle and can precisely place your shot then that round should work just fine.

I shot a doe with tsx 53 grain hand load. destroyed both lungs, pass through. she went 20 yards. after seeing the damage it did i have no prob shooting a deer with this. This was out of a T/C pro hunter with a 1:12 twist. i have some 62's loaded for my 1:9 AR but have not shot a deer with them yet. I recovered a 85 grain tsx in .243 in a doe i shot last year and it still weighted 85 grains and opened up perfect. only bullet i will use for deer.
