Did you read the story of the Netman? He just told you he deals with ice in his oversized drains every single day. Yet he has somehow miraculously managed to keep his boat off the bottom of the river. Just looks to me like the common denominator is the relative intelligence of the person putting the plug in..... Not the size of the drain or the weather conditions.

Nah, not really, more of a function of what conditions one is used to encountering, and the fact that the plugs commonly used for the conditions commonly encountered where I hunt were inadequate for the unusual conditions that day. However, I do appreciate your attempts to offer helpful insight. Keep trying-you're bound to have something useful to say sooner or later By the way, I never said that 2" drain holes were a bad idea (that was Beadlejuice), so I'm not the least bit surprised that Netman keeps his boat afloat, or that even you haven't had a problem using them

riverrat I have cleaned boat ramps off many mornings with my snow shovel and big bag of super hot salt only to have some dillweed block the ramp with his vehicle after launching. Sooo when I see his vehicle at the ramp I have two 150 gallon live fish tanks filled with water in my boat that I drain at the top of the ramp. Those big drain holes are nice for making a icy ramp. I was telling Tal about this trick and he liked my tactics. I do need some tire chains. Where I live in So Indiana we may or may not have a real winter. So far this year we are having a real winter. How about walking out to my shop and trying to pull open the double doors that are frozen shut only to have a great big avalanche come down on my head. I got fricken blasted yesterday.

After reading what you fellas north of I-20 deal with I think I'll just stay mad at the ducks that come south.

I like my 2" plug, and I only take it out a couple times a year to clean out the boat.

Netman, that's a classic old trick we still use to this day. When we have to open a ramp we always ice it up when we leave but we just keep a couple 5 gal pails in the truck to throw water on the ramp. We have even done that before we leave to hunt just so the next guy has to work at it. Too bad your not closer I got 4 complete sets of chains hanging in the shed, would let you have one.
