Well as if post duck season depression wasn't bad enough...went out to the marsh yesterday and saw more ducks in 3 hours of being out there than I think I saw all year...then to top it off I drove past my blind and ran probably 10,000+ birds out from the cove where its at. Took a video and its kinda hard to see but they are there...

We shot a few this year. I hope the water is right next year, I feel like that was what played against us the most this season. Here's one from the last hunt of the year.

I want an A5 bad but I can't find any older style ones for a,reasonable price...probably will end up buying a new one before next season if i can't. I just like the hump back and design of them.

I went out again today up the Trinity and I got a real good close up look at a whole bunch of fully feathered out woodies..you can tell they weren't hunted all year I got the boat to within 15-20 feet of some flocks sitting in the cypress trees...in my mind I was blasting every one of them lol. Ive gotten to the point where it just kills me to tear up and clean a fully feathered out bird. They truly are beautiful birds.

Keep your eyes peeled, the old Belgian models are still around. The newer Japanese guns are good shooters as well, just not as collectible. I picked mine up looking bad bad. Busted stocks, rusted to hell... I was opposed to synthetic stocks originally but the older furniture is expensive when you do find it in solid shape. I had no plans of making it perfect and sitting in a safe forever so I opted to parkerize the receiver and go with Bell&Carlson synthetic stocks. Every screw, pin, spring, keeper etc has been replaced. It's still tight like a new gun since it doesn't get shot much. It doesn't like to run low brass shells. I set it up for 3" and bigger rounds. It'll run them thru like nobody's business.

I'm currently on the lookout for a Belgian Sweet 16 in similar shape to what I started with on the Magnum, maybe a little less involved. I'd like to build a pair of matching old shooters.

I've an old Belgium browning , with factory poly choke. I shoot doves with it. .a little Leary about shooting steel thru a poly choke .

Love my old Brownings I picked up a Belgian 20 this year to complete my collection. Can't ask for a better 20 IMO. Up until this year the A5 mag was all I used but like it was said before weight was the only issue for having to walk a spot. I had the hopes that when Browning reintroduced the A5 it would be a lighter version of the old model but was sadly disappointed.

The new ones are about the lightest shotgun I've ever felt

Good looking shooters. I like seeing these guns in the field where they were meant to be, not stashed away in some collection. They were meant to down birds and game on a regular basis

I bet that 16 is a teal and dove machine!!

This really made me laugh. More of like a wtf laught but still...you can see how mother nature fuked us this year real clearly on this flow chart. River is normal level pre season then right when its about to open it shoots up to beyond flooded then stays there till the split, drops down during the split then shoots back up when season is about to open and stays there till season ends..its been droping about a foot a day since then...

It was definitely an odd year, but I wouldn't call it a bad year.
We killed 700+ birds all on public land this year.

I don't think I saw 700 birds this year (not counting my trip to Rockport).

Them blackjacks sure are fun to shoot though. Miss a couple out of the group? Just sit still and they'll swing back around. We hunkered down on a pipeline right-of-way this season and they'd come ripping down the cut towards us. First time I'd ever shot them where you could hear them. They sound like fucking fighter jets when they set their wings.

It was less than 100 jacks and spoonbills, I eat spoonbills and a guy I work with wants every jack I can bring him. I wasn't about to go home empty handed on the slow days!
