Man what a bummer. If you were planning to do a shoulder mount you can go to a processing place and get a cape. We had to do that for a friend once.

I have a cape on my deer that's been in the freezer for a year. Was going to shoulder mount it but now going to skull mount it.

Couple of questions from the south Pacific.
Is your season in the whitetail rutt? And I'm assuming that you have a limit like most of your seasons?

We have White tail in the wild in only one place and its Stewart Island about an hour by boat from home so never hunted them.
Reds everywhere.. No limit no closed season...

I personally think it looks dumb as hell.. But it's whatever floats your boat just hide it before guests come over
And it is usually around the rut WB. I'd love to go hunt stags though. I didn't realize there wasn't a season.

Yes hunting pressure is pretty heavy. We do have a bow season that runs from October 1-Jan 31st. The muzzle loader season is open for about a week or two usually, and then rifle/shotgun season is opened at roughly the end of November to beginning of January which is usually around the rut.

I finished up this morning, gave him a few hours and went for a swim to get him out of the pond. Been a good season

Damn good season right there! Some nice bucks fellas

Last weekend I brought my 4 year old boy on his first deer hunting trip. We made 3 hunts over the weekend, and we were lucky enough to see deer on each hunt. Finally on the Sunday morning, we were able to seal the deal with a nice doe...now, I shot the doe with my 35 Whelen, but he carried his BB gun with him on each hunt. So as we were approaching the deer and got about 15 yards away, I told him to stop. I told him the deer might not be dead, so you will have to shoot it with your gun to make sure. Well he didn't hesitate to cock his little red Ryder and take the shot. I said you got it dude!! He couldn't wait to put his hands on it and see that deer up close!

Still to this day you can't wipe that smile off his face, and he tells everyone he sees about his hunt and the deer "he killed"! It was by far my favorite hunt ever! Needless to say, I believe he's hooked for life..

I ask cos I haven't seen any in the photos and you seldom see a trophy photo here with out one.

300blk vs Reds. First 2 were head shots at 30 yards under the light in bluegum forest out the window and the next 2 were 200yards up hill out the Window. Good night shoot. All yearlings 2 hinds 2 spikers. I don't want to talk about how many rounds I used on the second 2 we'll just say the ssituation got faster and more fluid after the first shot went off.
