plan on doin some more bow hunting ths year. Only really ever taken the bow huntin a few times. Gettin some new sticks this weekend and wanted some advice/suggestions on what to put on the end of em...

yall shootin expandables, 2 blade, 3, 4??
I'm shooting a Bear Element I got for Christmas a couple years ago.
have to get more details on the bow when I get back from the house.

but seriously, alot of good broadheads out there. things i look for in a broadhead are durability, strong design, a good size cut, and SHARP as can be. i use to shoot G5 Montecs for both deer and hog but had a hard time gettin them to fly true. i also noticed they whistle a lil in flight.

so i switched to NAP Thunderheads(which are a fixed 3 blade) for hogs since they are a tougher skinned animal. and then i use Grim Reapers Razortips (which are an expandable 3 blade) for whitetails, both in 85 grain wieghts. both fly true for me and i like the cut and damage it brings to the animal. resulting in a quick death which means shorter blood trail :)

the thing with bow set-ups are that they are usually all different, designed for the individual who uses it. so some broadheads work better with other set-ups. you may have to get a couple different brands and just try them out. let me know if you want more info josh. i love talking bowhunting.

Ive always been a big fan of the 100 grain 3 blade Muzzy. I tried different broadheads and always end up back with Muzzy.

yea man 100 gr is the most popular and you'll find the most choices in that weight then any other weight. only reason i shoot 85 gr in both of my choices is because it is the same cut as the 100 gr models. the benefit is that it weighs that 15 gr. less which gives me that lil extra speed.

I'm pretty sure that's what I sighted my bow n and used the few times iv hunted with it.
I may down to some 85's because I aint spendin a ton of money on light ass sticks and could use the lighter weight. Just wasn't sure if the 15gr difference was enough to worry about as far as power/ momentum.
I was shooting aluminum arrows and my neighbor, who hunts avidly with archery tackle, said they were really heavy. I'm gonna try and find some decent carbon sticks for cheap.

yea carbon is the way to go. i shoot Beaman ICS Hunters and they run bout $40 for half a dozen. they are a great arrow for the money and a very durable arrow. i know because i have shot through my target a few times and stuck in the tree behind it and nothing was wrong with them :D . plus they hold up to hogs too. i love them.

and as for the weight difference, with my setup that im shootin its about a 7 or 8 FPS difference between the 85 and 100. so that lil bit helps cuz i like as much speed as possible. others arent concerned with speed that much.

and to answer your question bout knockdown power. the Kinectic energy the 85 gr produced compared to the 100 gr. is almost identical. i might be mistaken, but i think it only takes 45 lb K.E for an arrow to pass through a deer. with my set-up im producing right at 60 which is plenty.

If anybody is into fixed blade heads I have been shooting Magnus broadheads. I have shot both the original Snuffer and the Snuffer SS. You will have to do touch up sharpening with them on a stone and they will be shaving sharp. The original Snuffer will leave gigantic holes and so will the SS. THe Snuffer SS is scaled down to a smaller size for today's faster bows.

What I like about them as an extra is they come with a lifetime guarantee. If they don't fly true or you damage them you can send them back and they will replace them. The only way you can't get a replacement is if you lose it.

There is alot of people who talk left and right about Rage 2 blades!! i took three deer last year with devistating effects. Im sold on them. 2 of them got ruined shooting through bone, but thats the price you pay. There are two more that have caught my eye this year. Ive tried alot of broadheads through the years!! 2 years ago i tried rage and they will never be another broadhead shot out my bow!!

ive got a bowtech tomkat and i use to shoot the 100 gr muzzy 3 blades but i find the rage are alot better...ive killed deer with both but the rage does more damage hands down

The new g5 looks to be a really nice hole maker also but if it aint broke dont fix it!! I shot a doe one time quarterd to me went in at the shoulder and came out behind the ribs. She made one jump and i watched all her intestines pile up on the ground while she was just standing their!! I shot some 300 pounds + deer in south dakota the last few years and none can take a rage!! I'm gonna try the 3 blade this year!! All comes done to if you put any of them trough a double lung they are all good its when you hit them a little far back it makes a differance!! The bigger the hole the more its gonna bleed and the better the blood trail!!

Shot a 160 class deer in south dakota 3 years ago with a g5 tecan!! Shot him at about 10 yards same time i let go he make a step which broght me from the lungs to the liver!! watched blood leaking off the arrow deer just walked off never found him had blood for about 80 yards then lost it!! With a rage he wouldnt have went 100 yards.. Thing is i had rage in my quiver just was scared to try them!!

yea i never like the look of that tekan... plus it only came in 100 gr so it wouldnt have worked for me. it sucks anytime you lose a deer but it really sucks when you lose a big ole buck that size. those will make ya lose sleep at night

Just remember this, what ever grain broadheads you shoot make sure you practice with the same grain field tips to make your accuracy all that better, also i suggest shooting the practice broadheads to make your aim a little more accurate

I killed my first 3 deer with a bow 18yrs ago an was hooked after that there aint nothing like it,been bowhuntn ever since. I hear bowfishn is a blast too,i want to try that next. i shoot grim reapers,an love them.

Better check your state regulations. Some states (like Alabama where I live) won't allow anything lighter than 85 gr. I'm a muzzy guy, as long as the fletches line up with the blades you're ready to rock and roll. They'll bust bone, won't leave a huge blood trail like the Swacker or the Rage but are about as sturdy and dependable as it gets. Go with the muzzy...

spitfire, rage or swacker , ive heard nothing but good from all of them. i have been using the 100gr spitfire for several years, great broad head. ide switch to one of the others but havent seen the need to.

I'm not sure I'm ready to pull the trigger on the Rages..

from what ive heard bout the rages, they create a huge hole which is something we all want but if you stick one into the shoulder blade or ribs, ive heard they can break a tip. the rage will fly truer than the 3 blade muzzy for sure.... if i had to pick between those two, im picking the rage. oh and btw, you cant go wrong with the screaming beamans ;)

do the practice rages just simulate the closed broadhead or do they actually open up?

3 blade 100 gr Grim Reaper with a 2" cut. Last one I shot at 53 yards complete pass through and he ran 20 yards and fell over. Looked like someone poured buckets of blood on the ground. 5 of us on the lease and we all shoot them. All have had the same results. I will be there tomorrow thru Tuesday after a good one.

I shoot 76 grain Mini-Blasters by Rocket Aeroheads. Don't think they make the exact model I have anymore but I don't shoot enough deer to worry about being able to buy more.
