Why oh why does anyone shoot coots? If you shoot them for practice that's a waste and a violation. Please tell me you don't eat them, even just the gizzards?

Id put blue peters up there with any other wild birds, and more mild flavored than most divers. The skin ain't really thick enough for plucking, but the whole bird grilled or fried is awesome.

We had this "do you eat coot" conversation. If I didn't eat them, I wouldn't shoot them. I was raised eating any wildlife. I also clean the whole bird saving the breast intact, thighs/legs, heart and gizzard. Pot fried with onions and other seasonings for 3ish hours makes a great gravy and is very tender.

If one is a true Cajun, he really knows that we only eat the best: woodduck and squirrel, and if you are older, gros bec. La nuriture des Roi.

To anyone who cares dry wit does not translate well, and I am guilty of trying too hard sometimes.

Hey whats wrong with being an Offshore Boat Captain, I resemble that remark. My Dad was born in Arnaudville, raised on the levee in Henderson, and yep we eat coot, shoopic, garfish, racoon, that is Cajun. SOme good Garfish boulettes or patties would be good right now. My Dad"s family grew up in the Henderson swamp, My dad still does tours for McGee's landing to this day. We also did a few canoe tours through the swamp. Guess i am not pure cajun, i do not eat or like oysters, alligator, or softshell crabs. I do not care for squirrel, i give them to my Dad. To each their own, tell you what DGuidry shoot your limit of coots and i will go get them from you. LOL

** SPECIAL NOTE !!!!!! THE LAKE IS EXTREMELY LOW !!!! The old 40 Mercury could put us across the 100yrd 6" deep sand bar... I had to end up getting out of boat.. IT WAS COLD !!

I don't think I ever laughed so much while hunting. Was definitely some fun. Now that I know how to get there, I'll be back before the season ends with some friends to let them experience it.
