Post 3 limits and hole in boat
Son and friends killed limits of Mallards, teal and pintail yesterday. Son managed to hole my boat on stump while picking up mojo ducks. He said it was a wild ride back to ramp. It was a race between hole and bildge pump. Repairing today with epoxy. Will have to jack up boat off trailer. Hole about 2" wide by foot long. Stump
Prolly would have badly dented aluminum bottom. Water really low in Henderson...stumps that were never an issue are now exposed.

Well let's just see. How about inviting all of Uncle-j's African American friends to his house for supper and we'll go over each one of his posts and then well talk about how friendly he really is. Just searched for all of them with the key words he uses and their various iterations to disguise them.

I don't doubt Uncle J is a good man. I just think there is room for improvement.

Don't that wooden boat get heavy as sht in the wintertime? Unless it's always sunny and warm enough to dry out down there. :?

Naw man, water logged wood is lighter than aluminum. Remember, you read it here first. We ran wooden boats for years and then like everyone else we found something better. But I guess there will always be holdouts........

Repairs completed last night. Boat on water this morning. No leaks; son did great job. If you're interested, he clean up the edges of the hole with a jig saw. Placed a backing plank under the hole sandwiching a layer of wax paper between the backing plank and the bottom. Mixed epoxy and poorer into hole to fill it up. Then caped the hole with piece of wood screwed to the floor. After epoxy cured unscrewed bottom plank and removed it. Wax prevented epoxy from gluing bottom plank to bottom facilitating it's removal. We sanded bottom. Result was smooth like baby's behind, no leaks and repair stronger than original.

Glad you got it fixed. Wood is very forgiving and workable. But here is the issue. They were lucky to make it back without sinking in the first place. Cypress knee would not have punched through Aluminum. You have your preference and thats great but don't try convincing the masses that its a better choice than aluminum. I ran over a hundred stumps yesterday without any issues.

I agree that with modern material you can make a great hull. Just leave the wood out which would be the long term achilies heel for the hull. A 100% kevlar hull???

But then again almost all inshore glass type hulls did away with all wood components.

Wood in inshore smallboats is a thing of the past. Most inshore US military boats are aluminum hulled these days. Wood has been gone for a long time, fiberglass/kevlar/innegra and such are quickly being replaced by aluminum.

I'm talking inshore US military boats....not bass boats, technical poling skiffs, flats etc.....thats an entirely different story, should have clarified that in my previous post
