Post Alabama Youth Duck hunt!
I think I honestly enjoyed watching these kids do their thing better than any hunt I've ever participated in before. The middle sized boy (Chris 12 years old, my best friend's little brother) is a trooper! His feet got wet first thing this morning and I didn't have any 20 gauge steel so he shot my Benelli Nova with 3.5 #2's all morning and never so much as flinched. If I heard it once I heard it a thousand times,"Man I love this, this is so much fun!" "Will you take me again?" "Thank you!". Man he was fired up and a very respectable young man. But the littlest one (Brantley) is 6 years old and I can already tell he is going to be a stone cold killer. Shot a mallard drake at 20 yards cupped up fixing to land and when his 20 gauge barked it was OVER! If you guys don't take kids you should, it's much more fulfilling than anything else in the world.

Hen Mallard was the first one of the morning and the first duck of his young career. I said,"Shoot the greenhead." Apparently he's colorblind. Man I don't care I'm just glad they had a good time!

Cool man! I'm gonna try to do a youth hunt this coming season. Was gonna do it this year, but just didn't have the time. Great way for us to get in a good scouting trip also!

Yea man the youth hunts are the ticket. All the birds are here and after they don't get shot at for 2 weeks they're alot easier to work with... We were slap covered up with Pintails but couldn't get any "in the hole" had it just been us men shooting it would've been an easy 4 man limit with several sprigs. Chris wiffed on a hen pintail floating right over the top of the water and the youngest one Brantley missed a good black duck.

Would've helped if we had decoys but our "decoy technician" was off his game and left them at the house. But overall had an awesome day and got to see smiles on the future generation of duck hunting's faces.

Yeah, unfortunately youth season is a week before ours out here. Hopefully get in to a mess of teal though.

Good thing you are doing. I hope we're able to make it happen next season.

Oh man I'd be in heaven. I've got a "teal fetish"! Those little buggers drive me nuts! Nothing else drag your young un to Bama. I'll take care of y'all. Anything for a youth.

Don't have any little one's of my own. I was gonna try to take like a father/son out. Help someone who was less fortunate, but wanted to be able to get their kids out in the outdoors.

I had a lady that came to pick up a lot of duck meat and some deer if I have it. She has a son that cannot eat processed meat from the supermarket for some reason. Some kinda preservative in it. Anyway, he loves duck meat, so I would give them as much as I could. I was planning to take him out this year, but haven't talked to her in a while. Last I talked to her, she was trying to get a new business off the ground and going through a nasty divorce. She didn't make it by once this season to pick up any birds, but we did talk about trying to get the lil guy out for a shoot in october.

Do it! Teach that boy how to provide for himself and him being in position like that it would be even more useful. Probably allergic to MSG. That's pretty common.

Yeah, I'm hoping I can make it happen for him. The church they go to got together and organized a deer hunt for him a couple years ago. She said hardly a day goes by that he doesn't talk about it. I'm sure he'd enjoy it.

I grew up hunting Alabama, duck and spring turkey ... brings back a lot of good memories in Dallas and Wilcox County. Thanks for sharing.
