Anybody built there own layout boat ins thinkin about trying up build my own just lookin for some ideas.

ihave build some poke boats (skiffs) i am using the plans fromthem and making it wider also custom some otheir things and tryin to do a 2 person layout

Do you fiberglass the outside.

1/4 " then fiberglass. and yes they are kind of heavy but are very very stable

I looked into it over the winter and was really serious about building one. It just didn't make sense to build one. If you are hunting big open water the commercially built fiberglass layouts have been tested and refined for stability. Also by the time I bought quality materials it would cost me more money than if I just went out and bought one.

Now, if you are looking to do it for a hobby then go for it.

We don't hunt deep water we normally hunt out of layout blinds that we put on stands we made but between the blinds and stands there is no room in the boat. It doesn't have to be fancy just water tight and floatable.

baller I have the plans and templates for what you are wanting to build. Let me see what I can do to simplify this for you and anyone else interested. I have built a many of layout boats like you see wm has posted. They are very popular in Missouri. I am thinking of building my next one out of aluminum. Wood skeleton with alum skin.
