Try killing birds in louisiana and being a mississippi resident. It 150+ all stamps to hunt in la or like 20 something a day for singles. |

About 60% of my duck hunting is done on St. Catherine WMA. You can only hunt it certain days of the week; Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday "I think". Place gets a lot of pressure most of the year and most people hunt cypress trees in Gilliard Lake. Still good hunting tho The only I will caution you about is one game warden. There are 2 different game wardens on this WMA and one of them is a very nice guy and will help you out anyway he can, the other one is a A##HOLE. He is a shorter man with a beard and you will know him when you meet him. Make sure when you go that you know all the rules and everything in your about it correct and up to date. |

Post subject: | Re: MS public land |
I've heard rumor of this bearded man. One of the fellas i know that went last year was cited for improper signing of his duck stamp. Apparently if the ink goes off of the stamp and onto your license you have broken the law. Ole boy just paid that $250, but did say the hunting was great. |

I don't understand why it matters if you sign the face of the stamp of not, just seems like one of those nitpicky things they can give you a ticket for. Just make sure all your stuff is in line and you'll be fine. But this bearded man will look for anything to give you a ticket for. He will not mess with Mississippi boys much but if you got a LA sticker on the side of your boat you better watch out. The last time he checked me "this was not the first time last season" the bearded man was waiting at the landing to check each boat as they came back from hunting. There were two boats in front of me but both had MS tags and he talked with the men and looked at the few ducks they had and let them go in about 3 minutes. When I pulled up he started his normal drill looking for licenses, stamps and WMA permits…… When he got done with all this he began to inspect each duck we had one at a time and we didn't not have much of a mixed bag, 5 mallards and 6 gadwall. Not hard to tell them apart but he looked at each duck and finally put them back in my boat. After this he checked for boat stuff, lights, life jackets, fire extinguisher......... After we pass all this he asked me if we were shooting lead shot and I told him no there is not lead in the boat at all, after a few seconds of him staring at me he told us to pull out all our shells and empty every box so he could check. He even wanted all the empty shells out the bottom of the boat. Once he inspected every shotgun shell one at a time and most of which he had to open the new box, he let us go. All this took about 20 minutes, I understand they have a job to do but this was the 3rd time he checked me last year and not one time could he right me a ticket. I think he doesn’t like LA people on his WMA so he gives them a hard time….. |

He signed the face of the stamp it just bled over to the license was my understanding. Id love to go check it out but i would hate to think that getting screwed with like that is par for the course but now its a mission. Im gonna have to find out for myself. Hopefully not end up with an expensive bearded man story over something stupid |

Post subject: | Re: MS public land |
this fricktard has an agenda. he wants to keep the hunting strickly for his little local freinds. what pisses me off is that this not a miss state wma. this is a fedral reserve which means my tax dollars are what funds the place. not to mention we buy gas , eat breakfast and then lunch with our hard earned money in his county. dumba## is too stupid to figure out that we are good for his economy. i have no problem following the rules but he is clearly trying to intimadate us from hunting there. |

I think you can find these horror stories in alot of places. OOS hunters getting harrassed. They can fill their quota without picking on the locals. |

Post subject: | Re: MS public land |
exactly, the place not even crowded. i don't mind being checked out to mke sure everything is on the up and up but this 45 minute proctology exam while the locals just walk on by with nothing more than a how you doin is just to much. i wonder if i have the right to video this process while it is going on because next time we will end up in court and their will be formal complaints made against him. |

barryc I agree with you completely. He wants the place for his buddies thats all and its a joke, i wish something could be done. Are you from LA, do you hunt St. Catherine or you just know from other places? cb5331 I think someone already tired that, or something like that. He had a splint over his noise at the end of last year, I think someone might have hit him and broke it. I almost asked him but I didn't want to laugh in his face, that might have really pissed him off. |

Carry yo ass up to Bayou Meto WMA in AR. You can't leave the ramp till 4 am but can hear boats running putting wardens out in waders to walk and check people in the woods hunting at 3:30. Coming back to the ramps you run up long ditches and you will be well checked before you get to the trailer. It does gets silly when they get overboard w/out any real purpose to do so. |
