this is on the top of my to kill list!! how common are these in tx? There's 2 pair in my buddies pond. And i've never heard of any one shooting them. I hope they stay till duck season :twisted:

Beautiful birds. From what I understand, they are birds that escaped captivity and don't really migrate much. I've never seen any except for local birds on ponds.

I've heard of populations in California that are escapees that are hunted. Shit don't wait bust them now

Yeah, you can shoot them, they just aren't common.

ya they were in the pond with the local wood ducks, I dont wanna shoot it now. i'd like to see them as populated as wood ducks.

If a bird is pen raised you can shoot it any time you like, if you can prove it's pen raised...

If you look at just the body on those...they have a lot of coloration and pattern just like a wood duck.

Not sure but I doubt they got them out. Went the year before katrina and saw them then. They may have been clipped because they were not penned up.

The first hunt and first retrieve my lab did was a mandarin. They're not very common. I hear that people have em as pets and they escape.

the water level is serious problem in tx.. there is now a green wing teal , two pintails along with the 4 manderin and local woodies all in his pond 30 yards from there swimming pool.
