Post Lake Okeechobee Report.
Went scouting on the south side of the lake today and it's pretty much become an airboat only zone. Last year I did great out on the lake hitting the boat limit the 3 days that I went (teal season is 4 days here) but this year, it's a completely different story. Most of the trails on the south side are so dry that the grass has taken over completely and where there was 3 feet of water before, there's only 6" now. I also couldn't find the trails I was taking last year to some of my spots because they are literally gone.

I ran about 30 miles today through the main channels and jumped maybe 200 teal total compared to the 1000's I saw last year. So either the teal aren't at the lake yet or they kept right on going to deeper water. Hope this helps.

Were shooting drakes only - almost all blue wings - you can tell they are
drakes by the black bill - the hens have not show up here in Texas yet...

Also - these are the skinniest and hungriest ducks I think I have ever shot
during teal season - craws are empty - no rice or local grain in them at all...

I think they are strugling to find food in the mid United States due to all
the odd flooding and then the drought down south --- don't think they are
strong enough yet to make the big jump across the Gulf...

I know that from what I saw today, unless Holiday Park ( which is historically bad for early teal ) is holding some ducks, I'm in for one horrible early season.
