I'm looking at buying my first crossbow, what brands do you guys recommend?

Excalibur! While some will argue that compounds will be faster than a recurve, these are fast. I have a 140 inch 13 pointer on the wall that would back that up. :) Advantage of recurve, I can string and unstring it without a bow press.. so offseason I leave it unstrung.

I agree, Excalibur is the way to go. The equinox is the best and fastest (350fps), but the vortex is only a step behind (330 fps) You are able to uncock this bow also without having to fire the arrow. And they are deadly accurate. Never shoot at the same place twice. Get bolt cutter braod heads and excalibur bolts and follow the blood, but not for very far.

Just ordered a Horton trt traded my excauiblar in they are the best two out there I like both of them

I was looking at both. The Excalibur and the Horton TRT. I am going with the Horton TRT.

Very nice crossbows my wife had a hard time with the 225 draw that's why I got the Horton now
