Hunted this weekend down on the Kenai River. One of the only open fresh water rivers available that ain't frooze up tight. The salt water is still to windy to get out so we took waht we could get. Not a great weekend for killin but a good time anyway. Temp's in the 25F to 34F range. Backwaters on the river were freezing while we were set up. Plenty of snow, but all in all the weather was Ok. My buddy Frank with his "yella" dog Halio, Sam and I made the trip. Saw a nice bull moose on the bank. Plenty of ducks in the area but they were wild or in the closed areas. Got some divers, mostly Common Goldeneye and one Bufflehead and one Mergie. |

Where on the kenai were you? I spent a couple of summers running the ferry and leading drift guides at the convergence of the Russian and Kenai rivers. Beautiful area and incredible salmon & rainbow trout fishing! Never got the chance to go hunting up there unfortunately... |

Hunted above Bing's Landing and just down river from Skilak Lake and them down river from the Pillers on the lower river. You need to come back up and do some hunting. I talked to one of the fisherman that was at the boat landing when we quit the upper river. He showed me a photo of a fish he caught that day. Looked about 30" long and thick as a stove pipe. Real nice Rainbow. |
